For 15 years I've had the privilege to serve Glasgow Pollok as a doctor & surgeon. I'm seeking support to be your strong voice in Holyrood.
I was born and brought up in Govanhill, as the oldest of five children to Pakistani parents and a grandfather who served in the Royal Hong Kong Police force. Through the constant encouragement and sacrifices of my Mum and Dad (a black cab driver who currently continues to work at the age of 82), I was able to secure a place at Glasgow medical school and further training in general and vascular surgery.
I now practice as a transplant surgeon serving the people of Glasgow Pollok and the west of Scotland. I live in the Southside of Glasgow with my wife and our two young sons. My clinical experiences this year have brought into sharp and visceral focus many avoidable inequities that exist in our health, social care and education systems.
COVID-19 has unmasked deep wounds of societal inequality, a creaking health service and now threatens the future prospects of our children. Our post COVID-19 recovery must be treated as a national emergency. This cannot be tackled by more talk of division and separation. We urgently require bold decision making and a radical policy agenda to get our country ready for the challenges of the mid 21st century.
Only the Labour party has a clear alternative plan for the people of Scotland: one of recovery, renewal and a revolution in the delivery and funding of our public services. I firmly believe that Labour is the only credible party that can deliver this vision of repair and reform.
By voting Labour we will create a parliament that will showcase and utilise all the talent of our country, so that we deliver a COVID recovery rooted in compassion, conciliation and cooperation. I now stand ready to serve as your Labour candidate for Glasgow Pollok.
Raising money via crowdfunded will be vital for our campaign. Due to COVID-19, our ability to reach the constituents of Glasgow Pollok digitally will be more important than ever. Thank you for your generosity!
Zubir
