RESET+RECONNECT - Couch to Tri Programme for young people, families & women that want to reset their health, fitness and well being goals
Down Triathlon Club - Reset+Reconnect - Couch to Triathlon Programme
RESET+RECONNECT is a new Couch to Triathlon initiative from Down Triathlon Club to help young people, families & women to RESET their health, fitness and well being goals and RECONNECT with their community, post Covid, through a 10 week couch to tri programme lead by an experienced and qualified team of coaches.
JUNIORS
Down Triathlon Clubs JUNIOR section, known as the TIGERS was only established in 2022, for young people aged 10-17 years that love to swim, bike and run and participate in triathlon and meet other young people. The club is crowdfunding to raise funds to run a couch to tri programme for the TIGERS. Covid 19 delayed the launch of the junior section by 18 months and affected children's access to sports, training and meeting other young people. The programme will allow young people to take part in activities which will RESET their health, fitness, well-being goals and allow them to RECONNECT with other young people who enjoy similar interests. DTC is the only Triathlon club in the Belfast and Down area welcoming junior members.
FAMILIES & WOMEN
Down Triathlon Club was established in July 2019 and was quickly forced into lock down, due to Covid 19. Our RESET+RECONNECT Couch to Tri programme will also be extended to families and women as well as the juniors. The programme will allow families and women to RESET their health, fitness and well-being goals and at the same time allow them to RECONNECT with other like minded people from the community.
DTC is the only Triathlon club in the Belfast and Down area that can welcome young people and therefore families.
In a recent PEDAL POWER for WOWEN initiative we had 47 women sign up for a 3 week cycle programme which included women of all ages, most who had not ridden a bike for many years and really enjoyed the exercise, friendship and the tea and buns.
EQUIPMENT LIBRARY
The sport of triathlon involves cycling, running, and swimming (including open water swimming) requiring specialist equipment including bikes, wetsuits and safety equipment, which can be expensive. However, the funding will allow the club to purchase a library of equipment which the participants and members can use on a loan basis, rather than having to purchase the equipment themselves.
CROWDFUNDING
The Crowdfunding project will allow the club to deliver the RESET+RECONNECT programmes to young people, families and women in the local area. The participants will be enrolled in a 10 week programme of swim, bike, run, open water swim, strength and conditioning, yoga and social events culminating in a graduation triathlon at the end of the programme at the Beyond The Wall Triathlon, Castle Ward, Strangford and a specific Junior Triathlon event.
If the CROWDFUNDING is successful Sports NI will contribute almost £5,000 of the funding with the club raising the remaining £3,500. The funds will be spent on the RESET+RECONNECT programme which will improve juniors, families and womens access to participate in the sport of triathlon and counter the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their participation, well being and community engagement and an equipment library available for loan to participants and members.
The Sport NI matched funding is offered on the condition that the club raise the £3,500 minimum through Crowdfunder. Please help support the Down Triathlon Club's RESET+RECONNECT programme for young people, families and women.
All donations are much appreciated!
