Aim

Providing essential items and meals to families after twin births, reducing sudden financial strain and helping them stay stable.

Connected Community (Twinease) is a London-based charity and the only organisation in our area dedicated to supporting OJ BAME mothers of unanticipated twins, and their families. Founded by mothers of twins who personally experienced the shock, exhaustion, and isolation of raising multiples, we exist to ensure that no mother faces this journey alone.

Our Mission

To support vulnerable mums of twins and their families in their wellbeing and daily coping.

Our Vision

To ease daily pressures, improve wellbeing, and create a connected community where mums of unanticipated twins are truly empowered and able to be their best selves, and healthy, stable parents.

We address the severe emotional, practical, and financial challenges of twin parenting through programmes focused on mental health, daily coping skills, and financial relief. Each year, we support around 60–70 families across London, reducing isolation, improving confidence, and preventing mental health crises.

A twin birth creates an immediate financial crisis. Families must provide two of everything at once including cots, prams, car seats, clothing and ongoing essentials. Feeding costs are also doubled, with formula alone often exceeding £1,000+ per baby in the first year. At the same time, income drops sharply as mothers recover from high-risk pregnancies, premature births and extended hospital stays, often preventing a return to work. In our community, over 70% of families rely on benefits, leaving no capacity to absorb this sudden cost.

This project, Double Birth, Double Cost, will deliver targeted, practical support to directly improve financial wellbeing, helping families remain secure and in control during a period of acute financial pressure.

  • Equipment and Clothing Reuse System
Families of twins typically use large equipment and clothing for only 12–24 months. This project will collect these items from families who have outgrown them, safety check and prepare them, and match them to families expecting twins. Where supply does not meet demand, additional essential items will be purchased. This will remove the need for significant upfront spending and prevent families from entering debt.
  • Infant Formula Support
Feeding two babies creates constant financial pressure. Many mothers are unable to breastfeed sufficiently for twins, particularly following premature or medically complex births, or when one baby remains in hospital. This project will provide formula to ensure consistent feeding, removing a major ongoing cost and helping families maintain financial stability.
  • Meals for Mothers
In the immediate postnatal period, mothers are physically depleted and unable to manage food preparation. This project will deliver daily warm meals for one month, reducing household pressure and preventing additional spending on convenience food during a time of reduced income.

Together, these elements will reduce immediate costs, prevent financial crisis, and support families to maintain stability, control and resilience at a critical time.

Why we’re crowdfunding

The financial impact of twins is immediate and unavoidable. Families cannot delay these costs, and without support, many face rapid financial instability.

Funding will ensure this project can respond quickly and at scale, providing practical support that directly reduces financial pressure and protects family wellbeing.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funds will be used to:

  • Collect, prepare and distribute reused baby equipment and clothing
  • Purchase essential items where demand exceeds supply
  • Provide infant formula to reduce ongoing household costs
  • Deliver daily meals for mothers during recovery
  • Cover coordination and logistics to ensure efficient delivery
