To provide a multi-cultural event with food and arts/crafts, music, dance and song to showcase the diversity of residents in Dorset
The One World Festival started in 2009 by a group of friends of a Bangladeshi man who was racially abused in Dorchester. Firmly of the belief that personal contact and understanding of different cultures through food, sport and other activities could reduce such incidents, he wanted the experience to lead to something positive. A small group worked together to arrange the first One World Festival in Dorchester, bringing different cultures together through sport, food, music and dance. Since then, the festival has taken place annually, from 2010 in Borough Gardens and has been attended by thousands of Dorset residents, and sometimes people from further afield, who come together to appreciate and celebrate food, music, dance and arts from different cultures.
Feedback from participants in previous years events shows that:
Overwhelmingly people love the Borough Gardens as a venue for the event and the positive atmosphere

At least half of people who attended said they had learned something from the day
At least half of attendees are people who return to the festival bringing 50% newcomers each year to experience the positive and diverse atmosphere
This year, in 2018, for the first time, there is insufficient funding available for this festival, so we are seeking contributions from anyone and everyone who supports the idea of celebrating diversity, so that we can keep this a fun, free family event.
The event will be held in Borough Gardens, Dorchester, providing:

You can support this event by donating as much or as little as you like - all contributions will be most welcome. If you would like to attend, but can't make it on the day, your support will mean we can keep this event free to the public, if you are attending and can donate £10 you will receive a free tea, coffee or soft drink of your choice, on the day. If you would like your name or business to be associated with this event, donate £100 and you can have a mention in the festival programme and publicity (limited space available)
