"It's not often you get the chance to truly give back to the place you grew up in" - Hannah Laing.  

doof studios by Hannah Laing is a partnership between Hannah Laing, Turn The Tables and Street Soccer Scotland and we are all so excited to bring such a fantastic community facility to Dundee.

THE PROBLEM

Dundee is world famous for being a creative hub. 

From the birth place of G.T.A & the Beano to producing three of Scotland's finest DJing exports in recent years, KILIMANJARO, Van Damn and of course Hannah Laing. 

But despite the city’s creative success, Dundee faces deep routed social problems such as poverty, youth inequality, mental ill health and drug addiction. 

Problems we believe music can help solve.

THE STUDIO 

doof studios will provide a much needed space for budding DJs to hone their craft to follow in the footsteps of their favourite DJs. 

While giving Dundee a community facility that will engage young people into programmes to positively impact the community for years to come.

How is this possible? 

Street Soccer Scotland have very generously gifted an old changing room in the amazing Change Centre Dundee to use as a permanent state of the art DJ & production studio.

We understand times are tough, but that means facilities for the community are needed more than ever.

WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING?

While Hannah will be making a financial contribution herself to help fund the construction of the studio, we want to give everyone the chance to be involved.

This really is an amazing opportunity for Dundee & Scotland as a whole.

The more we fundraise, the better the studio and the more people can use it - for free!

THE BUILD 

To build the studio, there is the obvious costs of kitting it out with the latest music equipment but there is also the cost of transforming the old changing room itself.

This means ripping out existing fittings of the room which includes plumbing & electric, replacing electrical fittings and installing sound proofing - which requires a lot of work and financial investment.

Specific works & Equipment costs:

• Removing existing showers and plumbing = £500
• Moving and replacing existing electrical sockets = £500
• Removing and replacing existing lighting = £500
• Building soundproof walls = £1000
• Building sound absorbing rock wool panels = £500
• Building a vocal booth = £2000
• Buying Pioneer DJ Equipment (CDJ 3000s & Mixer) = £5000
• Buying Apple Imac = £2000
• Buying Ableton Live Suite = £500
• Buying VST plugins = £500

Total costs: £13,000 

HOW WILL THE STUDIO BE USED?

The studio will be open for the public to rent with affordable rates, starting from a self serve rate of £10 p/hr.

Booking rates will be transparent and the proceeds will cover costs of operating the studio with 100% of any profit saved for match funding for lottery funded community DJ or music production projects & programmes in the studio.  

Such community projects where workshops, lessons and recording time will be offered for free to project participants who meet certain criteria appropriate to each programme.

Criteria including low income households, people affected by homelessness, mental ill health, crime and disabilities. 

Music lessons & workshops will be delivered by professionals such as Robbie Tolson from Turn The Tables and rising local star Van Damn.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT / PARTNERSHIP TRANSPARENCY 

This crowd funding campaign is managed by Turn The Tables (who are a not for profit social enterprise) in partnership with Street Soccer Scotland.

To maximise the impact of the campaign Street Soccer Scotland, who have charitable status, will be facilitating donations to take advantage of potential income from gift aid and charity giving, tax benefits to businesses & sole traders who wish to make a donation.

All funds raised will stay in Dundee, either for building works, purchasing equipment or for paying professional DJ & music production tutors to deliver classes in the studio. 

Turn The Tables will be project managing the studio build and the delivery of community projects that will be delivered in the studio in the years to come.
