Aim

I'm looking for your help to take our positive message across the islands and deliver a Scottish Labour gain next May.

Our islands need a new direction and that’s why I’ve decided to stand for election.

But election campaigns are expensive, and I need your support to do that.

To reach as many people as possible we will be sending letters, running digital adverts, printing leaflets and much more.

All that costs money and any donation large or small will be greatly appreciated.

About me

I’m Donald MacKinnon, from Arnol in Lewis.

Since finishing university in Glasgow and returning home in 2017, I’ve worked in community development. I currently manage the community owned Carloway Estate.

I am a crofter and spent two and a half years as chair of the Scottish Crofting Federation making the case for crofting. I also serve my community as an on-call firefighter.

My experiences have shaped me and have led me to make the decision to put myself forward for election to represent my home.

My priorities

Our islands have so much potential but we are being failed by the SNP.

In May next year the SNP will have been in power for 19 years, and what do they have to show for it?

The Comhairle has been starved of funding, distant organisations make decisions about our lives, our NHS is in crisis and the ferry fiasco continues.

We need a voice in Edinburgh to stand up for our interests - to argue for more funding for the Comhairle, to fight for decision making by islanders and bring an end to the ferry chaos.

Next May islanders will be able to vote for a new direction, and a Scottish Labour MSP who will be the islands voice in Edinburgh not Edinburgh’s voice in the islands.

With Thanks,

Donald MacKinnon

The Rules

  • If I donate more than £500 checks will be made to ensure my name is listed on the UK electoral register (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).
  • If I donate more than £1,500 to a Constituency Labour Party or more than £7,500 to the national Labour Party in a calendar year, my name and the amount of the donation will be published on the Electoral Commission's website, although my home address will not be made public.
  • I must use my own funds to make a donation to the Labour Party.
  • Donations are not tax-deductible.

*Permissibility checks will be carried out on individual donors in compliance with the rules laid out by the Electoral Commission on donations in election campaigns. You will be contacted by the Election team on behalf of Donald MacKinnon to obtain this information. Donor details may be published.*
