Aim

Help Paul to print, press, package and promote his 7th album 'Domestic': a trans-european project of ten beautiful songs and images.

What is it?

An Englishman, a German and an Italian walk into a bar… they are celebrating two intensive yet inspiring weeks spent recording an album that they are incredibly proud of.

As I sat at home writing these songs over a long winter, my children away at university, my wife at work, it felt like I was cocooned away, isolated and safe from the madness unfolding in the outside world. Given the circumstances it was hardly surprising that emerging lyrics were about place, warmth, shelter, belonging, allegiance: notions of ‘home’ kept popping up like a leitmotiv so I’ve called the album ‘Domestic’.

Producer Max Braun has taken my songs and with great respect and sensitivity set them in an uncrowded and subtly shimmering musical landscape. We recorded the record in Max’s Stuttgart studio with him playing bass and some guitar and keyboards; a couple of studio regulars Johann Polzer and Gabriel Schütz did an amazing job on percussion; and from Italy my good friend and top-notch luthier Giulio Cantore came and played beautiful guitar and cavaquinho. I wrote the songs and sang.

My previous album ‘Found’ was initially released as a limited edition box containing a series of postcards featuring images and text that tie into the record. The format was so popular that we hope to recreate that again, this time featuring a series of my linocut prints. My prints have graced the cover of several previous albums and the vinyl format here provides an opportunity to include a series of original hand-printed, signed pieces of artwork in each limited edition luxury box-set, similarly the CD will feature a set of smaller reproductions of the images.

How can you help?

This is where you come in, on a galloping steed probably, gallant, kindly and incredibly good-looking, ready to save the day. With your help we can reproduce the record in all the relevant formats, frame it in a way that makes it stand out from the crowd and get the songs to market and into the ears of as many people as possible; and uncomely as it is to brag about your own work, we each believe these songs deserve to be heard, and we are confident that you will find your generosity extremely well rewarded.

You can either make a straightforward donation OR pledge on one or more of the many different offers on the right hand side of this page. Your money will be taken from your account only if we are successful in reaching our target at the end of the campaign on 31st March.

How will the money be spent?

The £8,050 we hare hoping to raise will cover the following costs:

  • £1,000 for 2000 CDs
  • £1,400 for 500 vinyl albums
  • £400 for paper and ink
  • £2,350 for packaging and printing
  • £600 for postage
  • £1,800 for marketing
  • £500 for crowdfunder fees
  • If we reach our target we will try for a further £1000 to pay for promotional videos.

And there’s more! With your investment, not only will we cover these costs, it also means that from the first day of release all money earned will go towards recouping our own costs and remunerating the musicians for the generous amount of time, talent and goodwill they have given to this project over the past year or so.

Thank you!

Paul Armfield
