Aim: Child Drowning Prevention charity Doit4Loui - Gives children the opportunity to learn essential skills to survive and swim from an early age

1599228864_doit4loui.jpgTHE NEED

DOIT4LOUI was formed in memory of Loui Aspinall who tragically drowned in 2013 at the age of 2 years old.  The need was seen to raise awareness for parents and to teach infants as young as 6 month old how to self rescue and swim if they found themselves in difficulty in water.

HOW DOIT4LOUI HELPS

Since 2017 DOIT4LOUI has helped subsidise lessons for many families with low income the teaching of one to one 'Float to Live' courses for infants and young children. We believe no child should be denied the opportunity to learn these life saving skills due to financial circumstances. The children upon successfully completing the 4 week course gain confidence not only in water and swimming development  but also they have shown generally increased confidence, accelerated personal growth and development. Over 250 infants and young children have now been taught these life changing skills.  Prior to Covid 19 the demand for these lessons has grown significantly as a result of the education and awareness provided by DOIT4LOUI in the region. This has resulted in a further 'Float to Live' instructor being trained.

The gift of Swimming

Doit4Loui strives to encourage children to learn how to swim without depending on floatation aids. We believe that once a child has been taught the fundamental skills to be independently safe in water they are then ready to learn to swim.

Children that have completed the 4 week course and are physically ready to learn to swim, begin to learn the basics of all the swim strokes. The children attend lessons once a week and become competent swimmers as well as  knowing how to be safe in and around water.

Graduate children as their swimming has progressed are now starting to feed into wider organised swimming activities.  DOIT4LOUI has helped them with the early stages of their swimming journey!

See the videos below with children as young as 4 years old swimming competently...

DOIT4LOUI WINS "Inspirational Award"

In 2019 Wigan Council asked the Wigan community to nominate people who go above and beyond in their commitment and are inspirational to others.

Emma Aspinall (Loui's mum) was nominated and won an "Inspirational Person" award.

The awards ceremony was a wonderful night with Dave Guest of  BBC "North West Tonight" presenting her award.1599395490_awards.jpg

IMPACT OF COVID 19

The impact of Covid 19 has been felt across the UK. The swimming community has been dramatically affected.  All revenue streams have stopped but unfortunately not the cost of facilities.  DOIT4LOUI needs to recover thousands of pounds caused due to the impact of covid 19 together with increased ongoing costs due to lower pool utilisation.

Looking ahead we are planning how we return safely, extra pool time to assist with social distancing, protective equipment, sanitizer, extra volunteers to ensure new conditions are met.

Our little swimmers are really missing their one on one lessons.

See what it means to one of our little swimmers "Seren"!

By the generosity of Sport England we are launching the crowdfunding campaign to help bridge the financial issues caused by Covid 19 and help secure the future of DOIT4LOUI.

We aim to raise £10k by donations and various activities such as raffles, donations, sponsored events etc which we will be organising and receiving £10k matched funding from Sport England.

Please help us achieve our goal!
