Your support makes a difference
Former police officer, Beck House was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. 19 years on Beck House is finally telling her side of the story
At the age of 29 Beck was leading anormal life. Dream job as a Police Officer, working in the Public Protection Unit, stable relationship, loving family and friends. She couldn't have been happier, until a combination of instances changed her life in ways she could never have imagined.
She was sectioned under the mental health act having had a prescribed drug induced psychotic episode.
Beck describes her 28 days in a psychiatric hospital as the most humiliating and terrifying period of her life. She recalls the lack of support, she felt trapped, and she experienced physical abuse at the hands of staff.
19 years on, Beck has become an advocate for mental health change and support. Today, she is an author, public speaker, and the founder of 'Strength in Struggles' which provides mental health support to individuals.
It is crucial to have open conversations about mental health support. What happened to Beck could happen to anyone, yet few people really understand what happens in psychiatric hospitals.
We want this documentary to educate people on the outcomes and safer ways of handling these situations.
