Aim: Extra funding needed to support Arts Council Grant. This theatre project will teach children about suffrage and equality through theatre.
Hello! Ditto Theatre Company here :)
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant from Arts Council England to develop a new show with the working title, 'Deeds not Words'.
This funding will allow us to research & develop the piece over the course of early 2022, which includes devising the narrative, designing and building a brand new puppet and also recruiting a 'mini board' of 7-11 year olds to input on our creative decisions.
However, the grant we have been awarded is not the full amount we need to make all of this happen and will be given to us on the basis that we can raise a percentage of the funds needed on our own through Crowdfunding.
The show will be centred around two windows of history; the Suffragette movement of the early 20th Century and the lead up to & enforcement of the Equal Pay Act 1970. However, what makes this project different, is that the audience it will be created for will be 7-11 year olds and their families.
At Ditto, we firmly believe that complex and important topics should be taught to young people as soon as possible, in order to start conversation and encourage them to ask questions about the world around them. Presenting these topics through theatre allows us all to examine our opinions, take a step back and challenge ourselves to see from varying perspectives.
