Discover U is a charity working to help people with barriers into employment. We believe that everybody who wants to should have the opportunity to work and we support them to do that with a wide range of programmes and opportunities. Our aim is to provide work related experience to adults with some level of learning disability or others similarly disadvantaged because of physical disability.

Discover U is a CIO that was established in 2015, and is currently based in Wollaston. We work alongside adults with additional needs, learning difficulties and physical disabilities to support them in breaking down barriers into employment and their community. This is done by providing a wide range of activities, life skills and learning programmes.
We currently have a waiting list of 30 days’ worth of support each week with regular inquiries for new members (many of whom are not going to the waiting list due to the inability to offer a set start date). This has been the case for quite some time and the need in the local area is growing.
This means that there are many adults with learning difficulties that are going without support or having to settle for much more expensive and less suitable alternatives.
For this reason, we recently set up a second site, located on Stourbridge High street. This means we can now expand on all of the skill areas our members wish to pursue. Such as IT and media skills, money skills, interaction with customers and the general public, sales skills, travel training and access to a sensory/quiet space.
We are leading the way with a new approach to day services where we are stepping away from the general set up of being primarily for respite and social time, giving a feeling of purpose and achievement to all who attend.
