This project is to raise vital funds for Cllr Dick Cole, the leader of Mebyon Kernow - the Party for Cornwall (MK), to contest the St Austell and Newquay seat at the General Election.
Mebyon Kernow is a progressive political party, which is campaigning for a better deal for Cornwall and the devolution of meaningful political powers to a National Asembly of Cornwall. And unlike certain large political parties, MK is not funded by big business or a number of wealthy individuals.
Our Party is also denied fair and equal access to the media at election time. For example, Mebyon Kernow will not be allowed a party election broadcast (PEB) on television, even though we will be standing in all six Cornish seats. We have been told that to get a PEB we would need to stand in a total of one-sixth of the constituencies in "England" - a total of 89 seats.
We are therefore dependent on the support and generosity of ordinary people in order to ensure that as many voters as possible hear about our positive message for Cornwall.
We have already raised £500 for our election deposit and volunteers are delivering our initial campaign leaflet.
It is our hope you will wish to back MK’s campaign by supporting this Crowdfunder appeal. Funds raised will pay for our main election leaflet. This will be delivered to all homes in the constituency, and every pound you can give will allow Cllr Dick Cole and Mebyon Kernow to reach around 30 households.
Any additional monies will fund window posters, poster boards and additional leaflets, which will be delivered door to door by our volunteers.
Cllr Dick Cole is a prominent local councillor. He served on Restormel Borough Council between 1999 and 2009, and he has been on Cornwall Council from 2009. Involved with many local campaigns, Dick wrote the Declaration for a Cornish Assembly which was signed by 50,000 people, he played a leading role in opposing the construction of an incinerator at St Dennis and has been an outspoken opponent of the Coalition Government’s public sector cuts.
The Western Morning News recently reported that Dick “has built a reputation in Cornish politics – even amongst his opponents – for being a tireless campaigner for local issues and the champion of the powerless.”
