Raising money to elect Diccon Spain as Kent County Councillor for Ashford Central, and supporting ongoing campaigning.

by Diccon Spain in Ashford, Kent, United Kingdom

Let's Get Ashford Back On Track

I'm Diccon Spain, your Labour candidate for Kent County Council in Ashford Central on May 1st.

As a borough councillor since 2019, I've been pushing KCC to fix roads, improved community spaces, and fought for better services. You might know me from my work driving the campaign to bring international rail back to Ashford or my efforts to revitalise our town centre.

I'm Kent born and bred. My parents—an engineer and a teacher—taught me to solve problems and never give up. Growing up with dyslexia has only made me more determined to help others overcome their challenges.

I've delivered real results for our community: getting the road outside New Hayesbank surgery fixed by formally challenging KCC, helping to save evening and weekend buses by writing to Stagecoach, creating safer community paths, securing funding for play areas, and helping deliver our revitalised town centre market.

In this election, we're raising money to win this seat for Labour so we can work on getting the improvements and investment Ashford Central desperately needs. If elected to Kent County Council, I'll focus on my four key pledges to Get Ashford Back On Track:

  • BETTER ROADS & BUSES: Demand Ashford’s fair share of the £50m pothole fund. Fight for better buses, affordable fares, extended pensioner bus pass times, and free passes for secondary students.
  • JOBS & OPPORTUNITIES: Continue to drive our campaign to bring international rail back to Ashford. Champion a new mid-sized town centre multi-purpose venue, and build on our successful market expansion. All these will help deliver secure jobs.
  • VIBRANT COMMUNITY SPACES: Secure funding for better facilities and green spaces across Ashford Central. Deliver safer walking routes, and advance a key community hub development we’ve been working towards.
  • EVERY CHILD SUPPORTED: I’ll fight to ensure all children and young people get the proper support in and out of school they need to succeed. As someone who overcame dyslexia I understand how important this is.

If you see me around, please come say hello—I'm always happy to listen and discuss how we can get Ashford back on track.
