To educate our children with regard to recycling and protecting the environment through working outdoors.

New stretch target

Create an area outdoor with a roof so that the work can continue even when the weather is bad.  Allow more of our children to access the learning outside and learn out the difference they can make to our environment.

Our school is in a community that experiences high levels of deprivation, our children rarely leave the immediate environment.  The surrounding area is almost exclusively housing with no gardens.  In our school, we have a patch of grass land which is currently undeveloped.  We would love to convert this into an outdoor eco-learning centre where the community can discover nature and the importance of the environment.

We would love to develop a forest school-type area including scope for outdoor learning, recycling challenges, nature and mini-beast exploration and composting some of our school kitchen waste.

Our school is surrounded by housing and there are few places to play or for the children to learn outside.  Our children love and grasp every opportunity to learn and love finding out more about nature, the world and how we can improve things.    By developing our outdoor area we can encompass elements of recycling food waste from our kitchen (and staff room!), building bug hotels, caring for the environment and simply loving the outside world.

We would initially love to develop the area next to our playground to add a bespoke recycling and composting area, outdoor seating area, planting and growing area, bug hotels.  Our next stage would be to add an outdoor classroom where the children would continue to learn, even when the Oldham weather gets the better of us.

We are a very inclusive school who has a higher percentage than average of children with Special Educational Needs and a number of children with other needs too.  Research has shown the incredible effect of broadening outlooks with learning about environmental issues and learning outside, we would love to offer this to a greater extent.

Our project is starting small but hopefully with your help we will be able to grow and it will reach the potential we can only dream about.

We are also being supported in the most amazing way by the Marks and Spencer Environment Fund.  They are offering to match our fund raising up to £5000 and double it up to £10000!  That would make an incredible difference and we thank then for their support.
