Bridge the gap for black care experience women/girls affected by abuse, between services available & the criminal justice process.
Amour Destiné was formed after our founders passion was ignited from losing her mother at the age of 8 years old, and the experience of learning to push past her own challenges in life, growing up in the UK care system and being affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.
She is passionate about advocating for improved quality and access to culturally specific personal development and wellbeing services for women and girls worldwide affected by harmful practices, domestic and sexual abuse.
Amour Destiné (French for ‘Love your Destiny’), is a UK based small grass roots organisation that provides support to black/black mixed race women affected by trauma such as Cultural Harmful Practices (CHP), Domestic Abuse (DA) and Sexual Violence (SV) in the Royal Borough of Greenwich & surrounding boroughs.
We aim to achieve this by bridging the gap between the services available to them and the criminal justice process. We help women affected to access free personalised services designed to support with an array of challenges that may arise because of CHP/DA/SV. Depending on their needs, we will liaise with organisations on their behalf and help them to communicate effectively during meetings to find solutions to their problem. We offer 1:1 and group educational wellbeing workshops, led by inspiring women with similar experiences.
We also work with partners to influence change through research, training and consulting organisations to improve responses and access to services for black women and girls affected by CHP, DA and SV.
We are fundraising so that we can increase the capacity of our team and reach more women and girls affected. With the rising cost of living impacting the lives of women we support we are seeing an increase in referrals from other services, law firms, local groups and organisations due to their being a lack in resources to be able to safely support those who need support. In order for us to grow we are in need of your help to keep going. We are concerned that women are slipping through the net as a result of not being able to access culturally specific support. More women will be in a compromised situation where they remain in rising harmful situations/engage in criminal activities consequently and we would like to be able to help as many women as we can affected.
However within our supportive community women can feel supported. This can also include meeting the wellbeing needs of our women with access to a BACP certified counsellor and food poverty through our hardship fund & food parcels. Helping them to feel less alone, knowing we can be that bridge and safe person to ask for guidance and help.
