Derriaghy CC want to create more opportunities for boys and girls to get involved in cricket and enjoy lifelong participation in sport
About Us
Derriaghy Cricket Club is a community sports club based in Lisburn, the club is affiliated to the Northern Cricket Union and was founded in 1920.
The club provides cricket opportunities for all ages from U7/Fundamentals to Senior/Adult. We’re a Sport NI Clubmark accredited (best practice) club and see a strong and vibrant youth section as the heart of the club. During the 2021 season we had boys and girls playing across five different age groups, we want to continue to build and develop this into a strong local community sports club. Our clubhouse facility is currently used by various community groups and our ground is used throughout the summer by local primary/secondary schools, for NCU youth finals and by Cricket Ireland.

The Challenge
Like all sporting clubs over the last 2 years, we have been affected by the Covid19 pandemic both on and off the field. With the easing of restrictions last summer, we experienced a major positive with record numbers at our youth training and summer camps, particularly in U11 and u13 age groups. This has created the demand for more volunteers, specialist coaching programmes and better facilities for our youth members. We want to progress our youth program even further in 2022 and provide more opportunities for boys and girls to play cricket than ever before.

It is vital that our youth members have the best experience of cricket possible while at the same time making cricket accessible to new members, which is why we are fundraising for our Youth Cricket Project.

Our Project
Derriaghy CC require support to develop this project ahead of the new 2022 season, where we will deliver more coaching and cricket programmes than ever before. We require support to ensure our youth members have access to the best coaching support and equipment possible to support their long-term development.
We currently have 15 girls from P4-P6 in our youth section and we see this as a key priority area going forward. We aim to double this to 30 girls in 2022 and this project will allow us to support our girls programme with quality coaching and best practice equipment. Alongside this project we will be providing boys and girls after school coaching in 8 local primary and secondary schools leading to blitzes and celebration days at the club.
