Aim
provide affordable boxing for our community, helping young people build confidence, discipline and fitness in a safe, positive environment.
I’m Luke, founder of Dempseys Boxing Academy, a volunteer-run community boxing club in Ashford.
Dempseys was created with a simple purpose: to give people in our community the opportunity to train, develop and be part of something positive.
One of the greatest things about boxing is the way it brings people together. Different ages, backgrounds and walks of life can all walk through the same doors, train alongside each other and become part of the same team.
From the beginning, one of the most important things to us was making sure nobody missed out on the opportunity to train because of their financial circumstances. That’s why we work hard to keep our sessions genuinely affordable.
For some, boxing is about fitness, confidence and wellbeing. For others, it becomes something they want to take further. We give our boxers the opportunity to develop and, when they’re ready, compete under England Boxing.
Our biggest challenge right now – getting our minibus on the road
We’ve recently been incredibly fortunate to have a minibus donated to Dempseys.
For a small volunteer-run club like ours, having our own transport would make a massive difference.
Throughout the season, we need to travel to other boxing clubs for sparring, competitions and shows. With more boxers coming through the club, having our own minibus would allow us to give more of them those opportunities without transport becoming a barrier.
The minibus has been gifted to us — now we need to get it on the road.
At the moment, the club simply doesn’t have the spare funds to cover everything needed to get the minibus ready and running for the new season.
So first things first, that’s what we need your help with.
The money raised will initially help us get the minibus on the road and ready to transport our boxers. Beyond that, every penny raised will go directly back into Dempseys and help with everything we do — venue hire, equipment, travel, competitions and keeping our sessions affordable.
We want to continue making sure that people have the opportunity to walk through our doors and train, regardless of their financial circumstances. And for those who want to take their boxing further, we want to be able to give them every opportunity we can to spar, compete and represent Dempseys.
Every donation, whether it’s £5, £10 or more, adds up and makes a genuine difference to a small club like ours.
First things first, let’s get the Dempseys minibus on the road and ready for the new season.
Then we can keep doing what we created the club to do — give people opportunities through boxing.
