We aim to preserve the natural beauty of Constantine Bay and to educate future generations on the importance of protecting sand dunes.
We are a small group of students studying Conservation at Newquay University Centre in Cornwall. As we learned more about the issues facing our coastal areas, we felt passionate about educating others about how they can help preserve and protect the coast for future generations. As part of this project, we felt that inspiring our future leaders and policy makers by encouraging environmental activism was a worthy cause.

Across Cornwall, we have all seen the devastation caused by coastal erosion. Cliff collapses, beach closures, sand instability. Sadly, this is the result of human actions and is accelerated by climate change. Our coastal environment is incredibly important for many unique species, but is also vital for humans. Sand dunes provide essential ecosystem services such as defence against coastal erosion, and they protect the coastal regions from storms and floods. Being a county which is predominantly made up of coastline, we all have childhood memories of days at the beach spent playing in the sand, splashing in the sea and rolling down the sand dunes.

Unfortunately, our dunes are at risk. Plastic is washed onto beaches from the sea, and becomes trapped in the dunes where it will leak toxic chemicals. Disturbance to the sand dunes threatens their stability, but many people aren't aware of this. As part of our goal, we want to raise awareness of how local people can protect our dune systems for future generations.

Our main aim is to raise funding for educational package for young college and university students. These packages will be delivered as workshops, and will inspire environmental activism both in practical and political ways. The workshop will be run by Beach Guardian, a local organisation we have teamed up with. Educational facilities can apply to have Beach Guardian visit them to deliver these workshops free of charge using our funding.
