Hello! I'm David - musician, songwriter, music producer - and I'd like to tell you about my project.
I'm really happy with my place in the creative world. I feel like the music I'm producing and the songs I'm now writing are some of the strongest of my career. I've been doing this a while, so hopefully I've learned a thing or two along the way! I love my job producing other artists and co-writing, but I also have songs of my own that I am bursting to share with you. I still enjoy the process of singing my own material from time to time - there is something deep in my soul that demands it! So I'm making a new album.
I'm very aware that the first question many of you will be asking goes something like this:
"Don't most musicians use Crowdfunder to raise funds to pay for studio time and the producer? David, you're a music producer with your own recording studio. What do you need to Crowdfund for?"
It's a fair point, and my studio time isn't what I'm asking for financial help with.
I've been able to put aside time to do all the recording of my parts and those of my main collaborator & co-producer, Kelly Bayfield. We're doing my guitars, our vocals, some percussion, some bass, some piano. It's all starting to sound good and we're very pleased with progress. But now comes the hard part... making these songs, and this album as a product stand out from the very big and often very lovely crowd.
I've been very fortunate to meet lots of amazing musicians in recent years, and now have a small, perfectly-formed, super-exciting selection of potential guests waiting in the wings to play on the album. But they are all professionals, so need to be paid to do what I'd love them to do for me. They will add the icing to the cake. The hundreds & thousands. The brown sauce to the cheese on toast. The fairy dust. You get the idea! And without your help, I simply don't have the funds to employ them.
If I can go ahead and get the guests recorded, I'll go back to finding some spare time in the studio around my other work and I'll mix the album.
Then comes the final part of the process. I want to get the quiet genius mastering engineer, Joe Vegna, to master the album for me. He's been doing amazing work for a number of my studio clients in recent times and I completely trust him. He is the extra layer of Quality Control. And he is the other thing I need to raise the funds for.
I don't expect to get your support for nothing. I'm happy to work hard to give you something that hopefully justifies your belief in my project. Have a look at the list of rewards and see if there is something in there for you.
If you've got this far, thank you for reading and possibly thinking about supporting this self-employed independent creative called David! I've hopefully outlined what I want to do, what exactly I need to crowd-fund for, but I'll leave you with some words about me from other very kind and talented individuals. Obviously I believe I can make a really good album, with your help. But don't just take my word for it...
"...David's skill at engineering and producing is matched by his prowess as performer and director. Most recently I was delighted to work on some of the beautiful songs he has co-written with Kelly Bayfield..."
Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Faustus, Belshazzar's Feast)
"I’ve been lucky to work with David on a project that allowed me to see his amazing skills across many disciplines including song writing, song production/engineer and as a multi-instrument musician. He excels in all three."
Becky Harrison - Singer & Theatre Director
