We aim to build a more weather resistant shed/garage for our winch after Storm Arwen completely destroyed the old one.
Dumfries and District Gliding Club suffered a considerable loss of a self built shed to Storm Arwen.
We were fortunate that our winch and tow car were not damaged but we lost a considerable amenity and our only source of power, a diesel generator was crushed by the fallen structure.
We are a small club with 25 members and limited resources and are appealing to the community to help us rebuild this much needed shed. We are resourceful and will do the build ourselves but require to fund the construction materials.
The club, which was founded in 1929, has been teaching people to fly for many decades and is committed to encouraging people of all ages to learn this wonderful skill. Alongside this core activity is the mentoring of novices of all ages through team work, maintenance of aircraft and vehicles, and the passing of knowledge between the generations.
We are one of only 5 Gliding clubs in Scotland and are the only one within the SW of Scotland.
Our target of £12000.00 will allow us to build a very strong structure suitable for the exposed site from which we fly and we would be very grateful for any donation that you may be able to give.
