Help Young People Create, Perform and Belong

Aim

Help fund subsidised places, specialist theatre workshops, costumes, props and accessible resources for DC Next’s first major production.

Young people in Scarborough and the surrounding area are full of creative ideas. What many lack is access to the space, resources and support needed to turn those ideas into ambitious theatre.

We’re Hayley and Katie Doubtfire, and we set up Doubtfire Creative CIC after years of making theatre with young people and seeing how much confidence, friendship and possibility can grow from being part of something creative.

DC Next is our open-access theatre company for young people aged 14–21. There is no audition to join, and young people don’t need to arrive with lots of previous experience. They just need curiosity, commitment and a willingness to create alongside others.

With support from our wider team of creative, technical and youth practitioners, members can explore every part of theatre-making—including acting, movement, writing, directing, devising, costume, props, design and technical theatre.

Our first major production will give them the opportunity to put those skills into practice. They’ll work with experienced creatives, take on meaningful performance and production roles, and help create an ambitious piece of theatre for a public audience.

The money raised will help provide:

• Subsidised places and bursaries for young people facing financial barriers
• Specialist creative and technical theatre workshops
• Costumes, props and production materials
• Accessible scripts, rehearsal resources and learning materials

But our vision is much bigger than one production. We want DC Next to become a lasting creative home where young people can make friends, grow in confidence, develop valuable skills and discover where they belong within theatre.

We’ve already received £250 form Castle Employment Group towards the project and any extra donations will go a long way to supporting the project to go further.

Every donation will go directly towards giving these young artists the materials, opportunities and expert support they need to create something they can genuinely be proud of.
