Aim

To fund a part-time co-ordinator to pick up and distribute spare 'waste' food to local people in need.

Who are we?

We are a key partner in 'Helping Dawlish', a collaborative team of 12 local organisations, including the main charities and the town council, which was set up in response to the pandemic, but is looking to continue beyond it to help make Dawlish a safer, kinder community.

What's the need?

The funds donated during the pandemic have only just run out. In addition to food donations, we regularly need to buy food items and pay for a project co-ordinator (0.2FTE) and a team of volunteers to drive around picking up food from where it is not needed and delivering it to where it is needed. This money will help us continue to support struggling isolated families throughout the remainder of 2022 in the wake of Covid-19.

Who are we helping?

Many of our clients are struggling with health, financial, relational and mental health issues. We also supply fresh produce weekly to three local schools, who are able to get it to hard-to-reach families who are reluctant to come forward for help. The fresh, healthy produce we can provide, in addition to the usual tins and packets that most food banks provide, will reduce food waste, help reduce the negative impact of climate change (40% greenhouse gases come from food waste - UN data), whilst improving the diet, health, immune systems and sense of wellbeing in our community.

Why we need your help

Without this grant, we will only be able to offer a much reduced service, redistributing the small amount of tins and packets donated and not making use of the fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and other goods we are currently putting to good use.
