David Carden-Jones passed away recently, he was a committed volunteer. We are fundraising to see his name go on RB396 when complete.
David Carden-Jones was a committed volunteer within the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group. Following a long and courageous battle with illness, lasting many years, he sadly passed away on 10th March this year.
One of the benefits of being a "Platinum" supporter of the project, is for the recipient to have their name (or a name of their choosing) on Hawker Typhoon RB396 when she is complete. This will be physically engraved on the aircraft, in a suitable location, not simply painted on. David contributed a great deal to the project over the many years he was associated with it.
We are hoping to raise the funds, and more, to make David a Platinum supporter, so, in time, the aircraft he worked hard to raise funds for can carry his name. Whilst nothing can bring David back, this is hopefully a small touch that will be a nice memorial to David, for years to come.
As well as helping at shows and events, David also undertook a lot of graphic design for the project, indeed he created the plaque for threshold donors to our 2019 successful Crowdfunder campaign to commence the rear fuselage rebuild. With funds raised from this effort, we intend to create a small plaque, to sit alongside the 2019 plaque, dedicated to David.
Money raised from all supporter subscriptions, including Platinum, allows the rebuild effort to continue, the first section is very close to completion, requiring another £40-50,000 for it to be so. It would be simply incredible if the funds required to complete the first section could be raised in David's memory. Should we be able to exceed Platinum, then Diamond is £40,000. This includes all Platinum benefits, including the name on the aircraft, and a memorial tree, but it also includes a flypast or display from RB396 when complete, and a flight in a warbird alongside RB396. This would be gifted to the family, so they could experience what David was working towards with this project. It would seem fitting that the flypast take place over David's final resting place, if appropriate.
We know a great many of you will have known David, either as part of the team, or interacting with him at one of the many shows and events he attended as part of the project team over the years. A wonderful chap, always willing to muck in, and with his heart most definitely in the right place. He is a great loss to the team and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
