🇬🇧 In a remote Romanian village, two sisters think they're reconnecting with their roots, but the girl helping them has a secret & the past isn't resting easily.
🇷🇴 Într-un sat izolat din România, două surori cred că își redescoperă rădăcinile - dar localnica care le ajută ascunde un secret, iar trecutul nu-și găsește liniștea.
🇬🇧When sisters Lilian and Clara arrive in their late grandmother’s remote Romanian village, they’re hoping to reconnect with a piece of their family’s past. Caught between cultures, old traditions, and a mother who never looked back, the girls find unexpected comfort alongside Maria, a kind local girl who helps them settle in. As they cook, laugh, and mourn, what unfolds is a quiet unraveling of memory, loss, and belonging. A bittersweet story about the invisible threads that tie us to where we come from - and to those who came before us.
🇷🇴Când surorile Lilian și Clara ajung în satul izolat al bunicii lor din România, speră să se reconecteze cu o parte din trecutul familiei. Prinse între culturi diferite și confruntându-se cu bariere lingvistice, tradiții vechi și o mamă care nu s-a mai uitat niciodată înapoi, fetele găsesc sprijin neașteptat în Maria, o localnică prietenoasa care le ajută să se acomodeze. Pe măsură ce gătesc, râd și își vorbesc de trecut, se conturează încet o poveste tăcută despre amintiri, pierderi și apartenență. O poveste dulce-amară despre legaturile invizibile care ne leagă de locurile din care venim – și de cei care au fost înaintea noastră.

🇬🇧 This is a story about two sisters who travel to a quiet Romanian village after their grandmother’s death - and slowly uncover a deeper connection to their roots, one they didn’t know they were searching for. It’s not just about grief, but about the quiet moments where memory, culture, and identity meet. An abandoned train station hints at a broken family legacy, while horse-drawn carts and village traditions reflect a way of life that has endured. Through language barriers, rituals, and the help of a mysterious local girl, the sisters begin to piece together what was lost - and what still lives on.
🇷🇴 Aceasta este povestea a două surori care călătoresc într-un sat liniștit din România, după moartea bunicii lor și care, treptat, descoperă o legătură mai profundă cu rădăcinile lor, una pe care nici nu știau că o caută. Nu este doar o poveste despre durere, ci despre momentele tăcute în care amintirile, cultura și identitatea se întâlnesc. Gara abandonată sugerează o moștenire de familie destrămată, în timp ce căruțele trase de cai și tradițiile satului reflectă un mod de viață care a supraviețuit timpului. Prin lipsa unui limbaj comun, ritualuri și cu ajutorul unei fete misterioase din sat, surorile încep să refacă ceea ce a fost pierdut - și să redescopere ceea ce încă trăiește.

🇬🇧 Visually, I want this film to feel warm, grounded, and deeply human. Natural light, handheld shots, soft textures, and an observational style will allow the audience to feel like they’re right there - sitting in the kitchen, walking through the hills, or standing in silence at an old grave. It’s a film that lives in the details: the steam off a pot, the creak of wooden stairs, the scratch of wool against skin. These small, tangible things will hold the emotional weight. My goal is to tell a quiet, tender story that lingers long after the credits roll - one about where we come from, and how the past finds ways to reach us, even when we’re not looking.
🇷🇴 Vizual, îmi doresc ca acest film să transmită căldură, autenticitate și o conexiune puternica cu personajele. Voi folosi lumină naturală, cadre facute de mână, texturi usoare și un stil de filmare discret, care să le permită privitorilor să simtă că sunt acolo - în bucătărie, pe drumurile prăfuite ale satului, ori în liniștea unui cimitir bătrân. Filmul trăiește prin detalii: aburul care se ridică dintr-o oală, scârțâitul lemnului sub pași, asprimea lânii pe piele. Tocmai aceste lucruri mici și reale vor transmite emoția. Vreau să spun o poveste delicată, tăcută, care să rămână cu tine mult timp după ce se termină - o poveste despre origini și despre cum trecutul ne găsește, chiar și atunci când nu-l mai căutăm.
𝐂𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭:
🇬🇧 We are an actor-director duo and the founders of our film company, Luna & Sol. We've been collaborating since the day we met, ten years ago — complementing each other's artistic vision, finishing each other's sentences, and communicating on a busy set without needing to say a word.
Bella is a London-based actor with a three-year Acting for Stage & Screen degree. She auditions, she produces, and she creates. Tired of waiting to be chosen, she decided to build her own characters and bring them to life on screen — discovering along the way that she loves producing just as much as performing.
Alexandra studied filmmaking and marketing across London and Romania. She made her directorial debut with Unwind in 2023, and since then has worked with high-profile music artists in Romania, most recently directing a full music video album. She has been telling stories since she was a teenager — with a sharp eye for character, a deep instinct for visual language, and a rare ability to find the meaning beneath the surface of things.
Together again, this time with bigger ambitions. The industry is shifting — audiences are hungry for stories that are specific, honest, and resonant. Daughters of a Quiet Land is ours. A film that means something to us personally, and one we believe will mean something to you too.

🇬🇧 If you are interested in the budget break-down, here it is:
- 𝑬𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: we’ll fly in a high-end camera from London and rent the rest of the gear in Bucharest for our 5-day shoot. We also need large storage to safely back up all the high-res footage.
- 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: we’re covering 5–6 nights of accommodation for 16 people in a single house near the filming locations, to keep the team together and close by.
- 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕: part of the budget covers fuel for 4 cars, used daily to transport crew and gear between the house and set.
- 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 & 𝑺𝒏𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒔: we’ll provide daily meals, cold drinks, and a craft table with snacks to keep everyone energized and hydrated during long outdoor shoot days in August.
- 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒔 & 𝑪𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒔: most traditional items will be sourced through friends and family, but a small part of the budget covers what still needs to be purchased.
- 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔: big tent, fans, and fridges for comfort; generator for power; IKEA boxes for storage; and a first aid kit—just some of the logistics ensuring a smooth, safe shoot.
- 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: budget also covers storage, festival submissions (UK, EU, more), and one-night cinema screenings in both London and Bucharest, in order por this project to be showcased to industry professionals.

- 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: Camera profesională vine din Londra, restul echipamentului îl închiriem în București. Avem nevoie și de spațiu mare de stocare pentru filmările de înaltă calitate.
- 𝑪𝒂𝒛𝒂𝒓𝒆: Cazăm 16 persoane 5–6 nopți într-o casă aproape de filmări, ca să fim toți împreună și aproape de set.
- 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕: Buget pentru combustibil la 4 mașini, folosite zilnic pentru transportat echipă și echipament.
- 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 & 𝒈𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒊: Oferim mâncare zilnic, băuturi reci și gustări, ca să avem energie pe durata filmărilor lungi în mijloc de August.
- 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒛𝒊𝒕𝒂 & 𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒆: Majoritatea lucrurilor tradiționale vin de la prieteni și familie; o mică parte din buget e pentru ce mai trebuie totusi cumpărat.
- 𝑳𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂: Cort mare, ventilatoare, frigidere, generator, cutii IKEA și trusă de prim ajutor- doar cateva dintre aspectele necesare pentru un set confortabil și sigur.
- 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒆: Buget pentru stocare, înscrieri la festivaluri (UK,EU, si mai multe) și eveniment de proiecție la cinema în Londra și București, ca să invitam profesioniști din industrie

- 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔: filming mid-August we might have one of those 5 minute thunderstorms and the heat during the day is hard to handle
Plan: We’ve built some flexibility into our shooting days & by being able to provide tents, cold drinks, air fans, etc, we make sure everyone is safe from the heat.
- 𝑬𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: transporting high-end equipment by airplane, and big amount of equipment to transport from Bucharest into the village set.
Plan: we have insurances in check and enough transportation to keep everything safe
- 𝑩𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔: Independent productions often have tight budgets that require careful management.
Plan: We’ve created a detailed budget and will prioritize spending to ensure the essential parts of the film are covered.
- 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔: Editing and festival submissions can sometimes take longer than expected.
Plan: We’ve allocated extra time in the schedule for post-production and are working with experienced editors.

- 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒊 𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒐: filmăm la mijloc de august, când pot apărea furtuni scurte de 5 minute, iar căldura pe timpul zilei poate fi greu de suportat.
Plan: Am lăsat o marjă de flexibilitate în zilele de filmare și, oferind corturi, băuturi reci, ventilatoare etc., ne asigurăm că toată lumea este protejată de căldură.
- 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: transportăm echipament profesional cu avionul și o cantitate mare de echipament din București în satul de filmare.
Plan: Avem asigurările la zi și suficiente mijloace de transport pentru a păstra totul în siguranță.
- 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒊 𝒅𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒈𝒆𝒕: producțiile independente au adesea bugete strânse care cer o gestionare atentă.
Plan: Am făcut un buget detaliat și prioritizăm cheltuielile pentru a acoperi părțile esențiale ale filmului.
- 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒛𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒊 𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒆: montajul și înscrierile la festivaluri pot dura uneori mai mult decât ne așteptăm.
Plan: Am alocat timp suplimentar în program pentru post-producție și lucrăm cu editori cu experiență.
