Aim

Dar Durra offers alternative education to young people & families through the conservation of heritage crafts & permaculture practices.

We are fundraising to develop crucial infrastructure for the land, primarily a community gathering space which will be a beautiful naturally built wooden structure where we can gather in all weather. This feels particularly needed, after having to cancel our August Open Day due to a storm. We're also fundraising for a compost toilet block and to establish more accessible pathways. We want to develop the land so it can thrive and support our existing community and that of future generations.

Our long-term vision is to provide alternative, land-based learning opportunities to young people who cannot thrive in mainstream education. This in turn will help to conserve and share heritage skills, such as thatching, Cornish hedging, green woodwork, willow weaving, Cornish language etc. In addition, we offer ongoing community activity days, such as apple & orchard care, tree planting and themed heritage craft workshops. Jack has lived on and lovingly developed the land for the past 10 years, and is collaborating with a group of local practitioners, his partner Katie and their friend Hannah, to share this project with the community.

We have an orchard and market garden on our 4.3 acre site and put emphasis on all activities and events being rooted in permaculture principles. We work with local people to build projects which care for the earth, build skills in the community and provide a welcoming space to interact, socialise, learn and connect with nature.

The Cornwall Climate & Nature Fund has offered to donate £5,000, IF we can raise £5,000 ourselves. Please donate whatever you can, all contributions really help - and please share this via your social media and networks. Thank you!
