Aim

Daisy&Co supports vulnerable women and youth, by providing equal space and opportunity to succeed through our Social Enterprise Bakery

A Socially- Conscious Bakehouse; inspiring women to succeed.

Daisy and Co work with local women from underprivileged or overlooked backgrounds to empower them to build a brighter future for themselves. We pledge a percentage of our yearly profits from a fully functioning bakery to fund skills training and workshops.

Women make up two-thirds of both low-paid and underpaid workers in the UK. On average women in full-time employment are still paid 8.9% less than men; this rises to 12.8% amongst bakers. There are still no sectors in the UK economy where women are paid the same as men.

1 million women in the UK are unemployed.

This needs to change.

Daisy & Co was born out of a desire to see more women succeeding in the professional world and within hospitality; treated equally, listened to, and most importantly, paid the same.

“We aim to provide a safe environment for women with lived experience of disadvantage, particularly those experiencing ‘multiple disadvantage’, to grow and flourish; encouraging a culture of holistic growth, ambition, and entrepreneurial spirit."

A safe space; built for, and around, women.

By providing mentoring and skills training, we aim to support and encourage local women into the hospitality industry or further education. We will offer the expertise and time of trained chefs and pastry chefs to equip women with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in the world of work.

Through your pledges, in 2020, we plan to run a 'Summer School'. This will be a knowledge and skills-sharing event, to inspire and encourage our mentored students.

This would involve 6 of our Mentors running one-week workshops, facilitating skills training and teaching business management basics to 15 women, in order to help them reach their goals; whether they want to become baker's or run their own business, these sessions will help kickstart their confidence and provide them with the knowledge they need to succeed.

If we're lucky enough to surpass our target, we would also like to offer our skills out to local schools and charity groups; teaching and inspiring young people to get involved in cooking, baking and sharing integral life skills.

About the Bakehouse

We provide cakes, bakes, desserts and treats for every imaginable occasion out of our commercial kitchen in Manchester.

We work with local makers and creators on our wedding and celebration cakes, sourcing organic and cruelty-free ingredients where possible, to deliver ethical and sustainable bakes for you to enjoy.

Daisy & Co is committed to long term sustainability and impact within the local community through our Social Enterprise.

We cover Manchester and the wider North-West region.

About our Founder

Born out of a love of all things sweet, our founder, Daisy, wanted to return to her sugary roots and make a positive impact, using her skills to create a supportive and innovative community of women- encouraging ambition and second chances.

A former pastry chef, Daisy was a finalist in the Le Cordon Bleu Scholarship Award which recognises young talent in the culinary industry. Her time as a chef was spent fighting for equal space and equal opportunity in mostly male-centric kitchens that praised long hours and low pay over talent and innovation. She hopes that through Daisy & Co she can continue that fight.

Every donation makes a difference.

Each pledge is the first step to providing an opportunity for someone to build a better future for themselves, and you can claim a reward for helping us along the way!

You can support the Daisy & Co family by volunteering your time, expertise or working space, ordering from our cake shop or donating to our work.

Thank you.
