Aim

Our aim is to get our Dads and lads back on the field to help promote a healthy lifestyle and good mental health.

Who are we?

Na Magha Doire is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in Derry City. It is Derry City’s only dedicated hurling and camogie club and was founded in 1982.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The launch of Social Camogie in 2026 was a major success for Na Magha, attracting new participants and creating a fun, supportive environment for all. Building on this achievement, we aim to further expand access and inclusion in 2027 through the introduction of a Dads & Lads programme, encouraging participation across generations and strengthening community connections.

Funding is required to purchase new adult helmets and sliotars, cover hall hire costs over the winter months, and provide qualified coaching for participants. These resources are essential to ensuring that our Dads & Lads programmes are safe, accessible, inclusive and sustainable, allowing more adults and families to participate in Gaelic Games within our community.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funding will support the continued growth of Na Magha's successful Social Camogie programme and the launch of a new Dads & Lads initiative. The grant will fund the purchase of 20 adult Mycro helmets and 20 Stix hurls of varying sizes to ensure participants have access to safe, high-quality equipment. Funding will also provide 25 hours of qualified coaching and 34 hours of indoor hall hire, creating inclusive opportunities for adults and families to develop skills, improve physical wellbeing and participate in Gaelic Games in a welcoming community environment.

Total Funding Requested: £4,990.

  • 5 × 28"-30" hurls @ £40 = £200
  • 4 × 31" hurls @ £50 = £200
  • 4 × 32" hurls @ £50 = £200 (assuming the 32" hurls are the same price as the 31" hurls)
  • 4 × 33" hurls @ £55 = £220

This gives a total of 17 hurls costing £820.

Community impact

Na Magha is much more than a sports club. We are a community organisation that provides opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to come together, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and develop a sense of belonging within their local community.

Our Social Camogie programme has successfully engaged adults who never have previously participated in Gaelic Games, including beginners, returning players and those who simply wanted to become more active and socially connected. The programme has helped reduce social isolation, improve confidence and create new friendships in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The proposed Dads & Lads initiative will build on this success by providing opportunities for fathers, male role models and young people to participate together, strengthening family relationships and encouraging lifelong involvement in sport and healthy lifestyles.

The impact of this project extends beyond sport. Participants benefit from improved physical health, better mental wellbeing, increased social interaction and stronger community connections. The programme promotes inclusion, supports positive lifestyles and provides a safe and welcoming space for people to come together regardless of age, ability or sporting experience.

By investing in equipment, coaching and facilities, this project will enable Na Magha to continue delivering meaningful community benefits while creating sustainable opportunities for participation, wellbeing and social inclusion across the wider Derry community.
