Animals in Malawi need your help
Cyclone Freddy has caused indescribable devastation in Malawi over the past week. Severe flooding and landslides have buried homes, swept away roads, and left thousands without power. But this is not the end of the suffering caused by the cyclone, and it is not just people who are being affected.
Our team of vets in Blantyre, Malawi, are ready to offer emergency treatment and care to for injured pets, livestock and wildlife. But we need your help. Donate today to buy the medication and veterinary supplies needed to help injured and sick animals.
It is not just the initial injuries that need to be treated. The floodwaters continue to spread disease, trap livestock, and limit food supplies. Deworming campaigns will be essential to stop the spread of disease in livestock.
With your help, our teams can limit the spread of disease for the animals and support the communities that rely on them.
Right now, our teams are on the ground, treating animals that have been brought to the centre, but many more need our help. Your donation will enable our teams to cope with the increased number of animals in desperate need of care.
"It has been devastating to witness the impact of the cyclone across Blantyre. It has caused a vast amount of damage and flooding, over 183,000 people have been displaced and hundreds of human lives have been lost. More bodies are being recovered from underneath mud and rubble every day. We have already begun treating animals who have been injured because of Cyclone Freddy, responding to calls for help as much as we can, and we are preparing ourselves for an influx of cases as the days go on. From our veterinary clinic in Blantyre, we will respond and provide treatment and aid to any sick or injured animals who need our help. The impact of this will be felt for many months to come."
Dr Dagmar Mayer, Africa Projects Director at WVS.
Our vets are already responding to the crisis, from treating a dog with wire wrapped around its legs, to a rescuing a very sick white backed vulture, found soaking wet on the ground.
As more and more cases arrive, our teams' resources will be stretched to the limit, but we will not give up on the animals that need us.
Please consider making a donation today.
