Help us get a further Trishaw and reach care home residents right across our city.
We are a non-profit group of volunteers in Brighton, UK. A brand new local chapter of the global initiative 'Cycling Without Age'. We bring generations closer together by sharing experiences by bicycle (a very special Trishaw, a three-wheel cycle that has a passenger cab out front). These are comfortable, fun, fully insured and our rides are always free. Our volunteer cycle-pilots visit local care homes taking residents out on rides to feel the wind in their hair!
It's far more than an outing - building relationships between care home residents and volunteer cycle pilots. It enables people to experience the city and nature close-up from the bicycle. It gives opportunity to regain social connection and for people to tell their story in the environment where they have lived their lives. Our work builds bridges between generations and reinforces trust, respect and the social glue of our society. Our cycle pilots and passengers alike enjoy the physical and emotional well-being benefits.
Our principles
Generosity, slow cycling, storytelling, relationships and community.
The joy of riding in the trishaw cab stimulates spirits to fly and stories to flow!
Help us add a second cycle to enable more care residents to enjoy a ride out
We have one Trishaw cycle in Brighton, kindly funded by an individual following his mother’s first cycle ride with us! Duncan our Brighton founder took out Isabelle, in her nineties and her son saw such a change in her he funded our first (and currently only) Trishaw: ‘Its just wonderful, I’ve not seen my mother this happy, animated and full of life in years. She loved every second of the whole experience you gave her.’ Duncan seen here cycling 'Vi' aged 91 and her friend has been piloting Trishaw rides for care home residents here since Spring 2017. We now have 125 volunteer cycle pilots who are keen to do the same. We hope to fundraise for a total of five special cycles in the coming months.
Why we need your donation
There are lots of elders and care home residents who'd dearly like the opportunity to get out too - but we need a second Trishaw to help cover more of the city (it's quite a long way across it!) Each Trishaw costs £6000 to buy and import. Please donate to bring the joy of riding to more care home residents across Brighton and Hove. We know that with your help we can help transform more lives.
Elder and care home residents can lack the freedom to get outdoors, explore, tell their stories and connect with people, of all ages, around them. We enable just that. The Trishaw passengers and cycle pilot engage with passers-by, enjoy fresh air, scenery, environment and feeling part of society.
Heartfelt thanks from all our volunteers and Trishaw passengers.
A thank you pic from a young supporter, the smiles say it all!
