I've signed up to do a slightly bonkers cycle race in Sierra Leone to raise money for Reseed.
I've just signed up for the women's day race stage of the Tour de Lunsar - a slightly bonkers thing to do because it's a fast, competitive, hot, humid, cycling race full of riders who are much younger and fitter than me.
Lunsar and Marampa Chiefdom is where Reseed projects are, where I work for a large chunk of the year and where a great deal of people I love and care about live, work, and face daily challenges. I'm so proud of the work the Sierra Leonean Reseed team does, they are a truly incredible bunch. So here it is - I'm fundraising for them and the work they do.
I've put £2k as the fundraising target as that is the actual cost of two months of salaries for 9 (yes NINE) hard working, incredible individuals to carry out essential daily work for Reseed to operate and deliver impactful projects on the ground in Sierra Leone. It's a bit controversial to fundraise for something that isn't a specific project - but that's why I'm doing it - pretty much no one (I'm not kidding!) wants to fund or donate for the team working on the ground - which is ironic, because without the team, the projects would be impossible to deliver. You can check out the team and Reseed projects or even set up a monthly donation by visiting https://reseed.org.uk/donate
I'm cycling and racing as part of the Lunsar Cycling Team (LCT) who are my friends and a fantastic club doing amazing things for cycling in Sierra Leone - something I can confirm from personal experience is not an easy feat. The girls on the LCT team that I'll be racing with are incredible young women, all 16/17 years old with bright futures ahead of them. So on the 26th April I'll be racing as their 'domestique' which means I'll ride as hard as I possibly can for them - setting the pace and creating a slip stream - and then hopefully they'll zip past me and win.
Anything you can support with is greatly appreciated and please accept my genuine thanks and gratitude in advance. I promise I'll train and race as hard as I can! Thank you for your support.
This is me and my friend Fallah after a Saturday morning training ride, you can't really tell but genuinely I am totally exhausted from trying to keep up with the mad fast pace!
