Who are Cwm Welfare
Cwm Welfare is a football club located in Beddau/Ty-Nant, a large former-mining village and community, population circa 5k, situated within the South Wales Valleys. Beddau is a Welsh word which means“graves”, named this way because felons used to be hanged from a beech tree which stood at Beddau Square! The bodies were then buried beneath the crossroads, meaning those travelling the roads would walk over their graves! Starting off as a rural community, Beddau’s fortunes changed from 1909 when the first turf was cut for the Cwm Colliery, from whence the football team gets its name.
There is significant scope and demand in the community to play more sport. Over several years we have grown from a senior team and a junior team to now having over 250 registered players accross 15 different teams , girls, boys, men and women of all abilities!

What are we raising money for:
With the club expanding we have outgrown the current facilities at our home ground @ Mount Pleasant Park , Beddau!. Our exsiting changing rooms are in a poor state, outdated, enviormentally ineffficent and simply not suitable.
We are raising funds which the club will use as match funding. When applying for grants most grants require organisations to provide some level of captital upfront! normally around 10% of the total project costs.

Precovid, the club raised some funds and a grant provider was almost about to sign the cheque which would have kicked off this project, however covid caused the project to be mothballed. SInce then having recieved several building quotes we have found that building costs and labour costs have risen significantly as a direct result of covid. This makes this crowdfunder vitally important so that we have enough money to provide matchfunding to any application.
We recently applied to the FAW Facilities fund for funding towards the project but were ultimatley unsuccessful due to the volume of other applicants and the amount of money available the FAW decided to decline our request in order to fund more projects. We are now working on a fresh application to another funding pot. Community Facilities Programme. alll moneies raised via the crowdfunder will go towards the project
What are our plans

The match funding will go towards us modernising and extending the ground floor of our existing changing rooms providing clean modern facilities and increasing from 2 changing rooms, to 4 changing rooms whilst also providing faciltiies for male and female officials.
The second floor will include a function room which will be available for the whole community to use, the club intend to use this during match days for supporters and players to watch from the balacony or visit after games.
The building will be designed to be energy efficient, with solar panels on the roof and batery storage to fill up the batteries to reduce the reliance on drawing energy from the national grid.
Is that all??
This project represent one strand of a multiphase plan which we hope to deliver over 5 years. Our ambition to build a community football club that is inclusive, sustainable (financially and environmentally) and forward-thinking. In this first phase there are three elements, all delivered in partnership with RCT Local Authority, our key partner.
We have already started work on our plans with the support of our partners!:
The installation of perimeter fencing to our main pitch (the top pitch) has recently been completed which will help protect it and enable our first, development and youth teams to have a pitch befitting their league status.
Later in the year there will be planned essential pitch upgrades to our second pitch (the lower pitch) which will double our match-playing capacity as soon as it becomes playable by all our age groups.
The transformation of our changing room facilities along with these other elements will enable more football played at our venue and allow the continued growth of cwm welfare.
Our overall aim is to help provide a better facility and continue to grow the number of players we have at the club whilst also helping to provide the wider community with facilities that they and the club can be proud of!

Thank you for your support
