Bellot Ensemble pride themselves on the energy and passion they give to each performance. Specialising in 16th and 17th Century repertoire, deep research into the style combined with written and improvised divisions, and often their own editions of original manuscripts, creates a totally unique sound which has gained them great acclaim across the early music scene in the UK. The group have performed at festivals across Europe, most recently the Oude Muziek Festival in Utrecht and the Brighton Early Music Festival - and look forward to competing at the LIFEM Young Ensemble Competition in November 2024.
'Cupid's Ground Bass' is an exploration of the beautiful vocal and instrumental repertoire of the 17th century, heavily featuring arias which reference and depict love. The core group will be joined by some of the most esteemed young singers in the UK, promising a recording which will be able to stand proudly alongside recordings of leading early music ensembles in the UK.
The recording is not only about the group releasing music, but also is a boost to what is already a group which is gaining acclaim and becoming known across the UK early music scene. As the group spreads its net across the industry, be that through their own concerts, touring with opera companies, or otherwise - 'Cupid's Ground Bass' will be a chance to show exactly what the ensemble can do, and help to spread the word even more!
In an ever difficult world for young musicians, the money the ensemble receives through funding will allow all involved musicians to be adequately paid for the recording of the album. Further funding will open up possibilities for marketing, to help the album reach more listeners, and touring possibilities after the release of the album!
