Vinema launched at 1901 Arts Club in Waterloo on the 23rd September 2021. Starting as a monthly affair in our founding year, and continued throughout 2022. Vinema invited everyone to discover award winning cinema, juxtaposed with a selection of delicious wines to taste and enjoy at a cabaret table in the 1901 Arts Club Salon.
We actively encouraged confabulation after the film credits have rolled in the bar upstairs.
Our pop ups were a great success and enjoyed by many and now I want to enhance my knowledge, learning more, including programming, marketing, audience development, fundraising and the technical aspects of exhibiting film, to build on the success of Vinema.
I’ve been very lucky to receive a place on the outstanding Cultural cinema exhibition training programme with the Independent Cinema office in Bermondsey in January 2025 which will instil both of the above.
Attending this course will in essence encourage and allow me to start up Vinema once again. Additionally it will give me the knowledge and experience to work freelance in film programming professionally at different venues and festivals around the country.
The concept and execution of Vinema was delivered by myself, and I know that now is the time for collaboration and guidance on how to build on that success. I am hoping to be galvanised and further inspired by film industry professionals on the course, to make contacts and build relationships that will benefit not only myself but lead to a richer creative ecology within the realm of independent cinema.
A quick reminder of the Vinema concept - we choose a French, Italian, Georgian film, fundamentally any country that creates cinema, crushes grapes and creates wine.
All tickets included a tasting paddle of three wines to start guests on their tasting journey an hour before the film began. To continue your discovery, there were six distinctive wines available for purchase at the bar by the glass or bottle to enjoy and take to your seat in the Salon to watch the film.
