Croydon Community Energy (CCE) is a community organisation made up of local residents who want to help save the planet while cutting local energy bills. We plan to achieve this by creating community-owned solar projects that promote local renewable energy in Croydon.
Following an established model, we aim to install 711 solar panels and provide power to three community buildings, saving them many thousands of pounds to reinvest in their services and reducing carbon emissions by approximately 69.2 metric tonnes of CO₂ annually—equivalent to taking 15 cars off the road or planting 1,153 trees.
The cost of this project is up to £340,000, which will be covered by the income earned from the sale of power, both to the sites and to the grid. Every pound you invest in Croydon Community Energy will save the host sites another pound in energy costs over the project's lifetime. We invite you to join us in Croydon Community Energy and invest in the solar future of Croydon.
During the COVID lockdown, our founder and CEO, Connie, was watching a David Attenborough documentary, at the end of which he said, “Every one of us has the power to make a difference.” Those words ignited a spark that motivated the creation of CCE. Connie knew she wanted to contribute to meaningful climate action with the local community at the forefront, and her research led her to discover the world of community energy. After realising there wasn’t a community energy group in Croydon, she thought, “Why not give it a go?” Reaching out to people she knew locally, she quickly found a team eager to help, and in November 2021, CCE was born.
We aim to install solar panels on as many community sites as possible and use the surplus to support local projects that reduce fuel poverty, educate people about the energy sector, empower residents, and teach children about renewable energy and sustainability. We’re united by the belief that “every one of us has the power to make a difference,” and together, we’re determined to make a lasting impact on our community and the environment.
This is a voluntary-aided, mixed-gender school with 764 pupils aged 11–18. The study demonstrated a clear potential for installing between 42 kWp and 143 kWp of solar PV on various buildings at Archbishop Tenison’s CofE High School.
Once completed, the solar PV system is expected to provide 85% of the school's total electricity use and could generate over £110,000 in savings.
The church hall is regularly used by a nursery during term time, operating from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday, with an after-school club and Sunday school also making use of the space. Additionally, the hall serves as a holiday club, ensuring extensive use throughout the year.
The solar PV system is expected to provide 10% of the church’s total electricity use and could generate over £56,000 in savings.
This premises is a charity-based (Charity No. 1002799) temple and community centre, serving the local Hindu community with prayers, yoga classes, and other religious events.
The feasibility study identified the potential for 12.02 kWp of solar PV, generating 11,294 kWh per year. Once completed, the solar PV system is expected to provide 70% of the temple’s total electricity use and could generate over £20,000 in savings.
We can’t do this alone. Your investment will power community buildings, cut energy bills, and reduce emissions for generations to come.
