We’re raising £35,000 to adapt Raya’s home so it is safe, accessible and suited to her needs, giving her more comfort and independence.
For years, we have battled, chased, complained and fought to get Raya the home adaptations she desperately needs. Raya has sma type 1 yet her condition does not define her! The council recognised the only solution for Raya to have independence and accessibility is for a ground floor extension with wet room and bedroom.
Raya has spent her life overcoming more than most adults ever will. The family were told when Raya was 1 that if she leaves the hospital she will have no motor function whatsoever. That was not acceptable for Kelly and Dan. She has overcome every obstacle put in her path and she has achieved things that no professional thought she would achieve. We knew better. With the sheer love determination Kelly, Dan and those around them have never give up. With pure love we have fought for every piece of equipment, fundraised for private physio, essential equipment and day to day items to support raya with her development. kel and Dan have gone above and beyond to provide Raya with the same opportunities as children her own age. Yet at home, she still has no real independence despite being capable of doing so. Her wheelchair cannot be used around the house, she is unable to toilet train or use her specialist equipment despite being capable of doing so. Raya has to rely on adults to carry and move her, and even everyday things other children take for granted are made so much harder because her home simply does not meet her needs.
We have fought since 2023 for this to change. The council recognised then that the only option for Raya to live her life to the fullest is a ground floor extension. Yet we are still battling to cover the shortfall. For three years the council have drifted us with issues over months that we have sorted out over days. Provided no interim support and sat on the funding for three years which the family were not aware of until the official complaint in March 2026z They have accepted all fault but have refused to bridge the funding gap and have not responded to us since April despite multiple requests. We have exhausted every avenue. Heads of departments, councillors, mayors, MPs charities etc.
Raya has worked so hard to get to the position she is in now yet is reliant on adults to transport her with her equipment around the home. Raya spends the majority of her time at home and even has school there due to the risk of infection
Now everything feels even more urgent.
Raya’s mum, has been her 24 hour carer since diagnosis with Dan going to work then providing care also.
As if the family haven’t been through enough Kelly has stage 4 cancer, but like her daughter she will not let her diagnosis define her.
More than anything, we want Kel to see her little girl finally have the safe, accessible home and independence she has fought so hard for.
This Crowdfunder is about giving Raya what she should have had years ago — dignity, accessibility, freedom and the chance to be as independent as possible in her own home.
If you can donate, even a small amount, it will mean so much. If you can’t, please share. The more people we reach, the closer we can get to making this happen for Raya and Kel. 🤍
They have fought long enough. Now we need people to help us fight alongside them.
