Crowdfunder are getting behind the Guitar Social!
We did it

We're getting behind the world record attempt by Guitar Social to put on the longest ever guitar lesson

Why we're supporting the Guitar Social

We're and we have created a fundraising page to support the Guitar Social, a wonderful project based in east London. They are attempting to break the world record for the longest guitar lesson to raise vital funds to continue their amazing work, helping isolated and vulnerable communities through music. We hope to raise £500 towards the cause through our employees.

What is the Guitar Social?

They specialise in teaching guitar to isolated and vulnerable communities, using the guitar as a kind of magical tool through which we can address some prominent social needs. By putting a group of people in a room together and showing them how to make music they reduce isolation, promote inclusion, punctate an often trying and difficult week and ultimately redirect people into new settings where confidence is risen and self esteem soars.

In no place is this more clear than their work with blind communities. We have Mary, a 98 year old student who played her first gig last month having discovered guitar twelve months ago and some visually impaired learners with complex mental health needs that are finding a voice and a new community through music.

Why crowdfunding?

They've turned to Crowdfunder to try something new and help us continue their important work. They're going to teach for 24 hours. This will be a world record and the team from Guinness World Records will be there too.

They're aiming to raise £24,000 for their 24-hour marathon, and they need our help.

What will the money be spent on?

£24,000 will enable them to buy 200 guitars which they will give away to vulnerable client groups and provide each of those people with 20 hours of class tuition. The guitars will go to young people, people fighting homelessness, those suffering with ill mental health, refugee communities and visually impaired and blind people.

They have been running these courses for sometime and the results have been proven and incredible. They're now ready to reach more. So they're asking for £24,000. One thousand for every hour they teach in the 24 hour challenge.

So why the world record attempt?

For their learners, learning the guitar has additional challenges. One of their learners for example, had little to no sensation in his hands, couldn't see and was deaf in one ear. He told them 'My guitar class is my new family'. They have worked with clients that have been desperately ill and still managed to get to their class. In acknowledgement of the challenges our learners have faced, it seemed right to set the challenge.

They also know that an Official Guinness World Record Attempt raises a profile of a project and they would like more people to know about the amazing people they teach.

How will it work?

The lesson will last for over 24 hours and will see people split into classes of 10. All classes will be pitched at beginner level-but if you've played before you can go down anyway and just enjoy the mood.  The event will end with a mass jam in a new public square in London City Island where around 200 people will play the same song. That song will be Mary's favourite song, Free Falling with Mary leading the crowd.

When is it?

It will be held on Thursday, July 18 through to the following day and will start at their venue at London City Island at 6.30pm.
