Aim

The Crossroads Community Hub runs budgeting support sessions that improve financial literacy and help prevent food poverty

The Crossroads Community Hub has grown out of a project started to provide food during the COVID pandemic. The project now looks to tackle the root causes of food poverty by running busgeting support sessions.

These sessions assist people so that they can understand their income and outgoings and identify tools that they can use to budget effectively. Sessions help pinpoint the root causes of money difficulties. Then, options about increasing income and decreasing expenditure are discussed.

Increasing income can be done, for example, by identifying benefits that people are entitled to but are not claiming. Decreasing expenditure can be done by reviewing options like looking at alternatives, spotting cheaper options and implementing lifestyle changes.

The aim is to give people the tools they need to budget on an ongoing basis. To do this, we offer ongoing support. We also signpost to other organisations like the CAB where this helps people get more assistance.

These sessions also help us address the wider issues associated with money difficulties like isolation, shame, loss of confidence, lack of hope and a lack of dignity. We look to provide the skills needed for people to be able to reduce their dependence on support services.
