Jasami’s aim: support/publish writers/artists with Dyslexia; empower people of Diversity-to ensure their stories are available world-wide.

by Michele Bernadette Smith in Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom

Myself (Michèle Bernadette Smith-Chief Executive)

Like all good publishers - it all begins with the story.

The story of Michèle. Once upon a time, a woman with a wide range of experience in business was presented with the opportunity to start her own. She thought and thought. What would be challenging, interesting, and include her passion for books, reading, and helping others? What else to do - but to start a small indie publishing company, focusing on brand new talent. Writers who had never been published, had been rejected, and needed a platform for their voices to be heard.

The naming of the company was a most personal decision. The first two letters of her dad’s, mum’s and her own name. JAck SAdie and MIchèle heralded the birth of JASAMI - Jasami Publishing Ltd. The ethos, morals, values, and ethics of her family, are elemental to Jasami.

With a little grant money, lots of ambition, passion, and ideas, Michèle started on her own, a lone character, as  editor, cover designer, social media creator, coffee maker, and cleaner. Soon, with the implementation of her internship programme, Jasami obtained two editors and one cover designer. Happily, (like any great character in a story) this programme has continued to grow, enrich, evolve, and progress, each and every year. Indeed, the internship programme is the foundation of Jasami’s success. This all due, to their enthusiastic dedication and their commitment to community. Additionally, each writer’s journey to Jasami is as varied as they are, and continues to this day.

With Jasami’s Commitment to Community, and through the author’s involvement, organisations supported included the Royal Marines Charity, Pilgrim’s Hospice, and Kalumbila Animal Rescue.

At this point in Michèle’s story, she realised the only way to help more people, was to evolve into a not-for-profit organisation; heralding the birth of Jasami Publishing & Productions CIC. New characters in this story include: people who are often ‘disenfranchised’ by society; those who a ‘different’, not ‘accepted’ and considered ‘diverse’.

This is my story. Jasami is my baby. Those who join Jasami Publishing & Productions CIC, are more like family members who work in a team environment.

My Team - The Jasami Team

The integral story of Michèle and Jasami continues with the most important aspect of Jasami, its team. They are young, talented, creative, intelligent, and passionate about their chosen area to support. Watch the video to see it expressed in their own words - and more will be released throughout the coming days.

Idea

We embrace the Idea that dyslexia and diversity are not ‘differences’ but are actually ‘individual characteristics’ - which actually does include every single person on the planet!

Language - it is the basis of how we can hate, harm, injure, damage, and resist. It is also the basis of how we can love, benefit, heal, repair, and accept,

How we interact with others in our community, is based upon our negative/positive language.

As a publisher, Jasami’s idea is to:

      • educate
      • illuminate
      • raise awareness
      • share stories
      • publish author’s /creator’s work
      • create videos and education programmes to share the Jasami Vision…
      • This is the idea..what is the Jasami Vision?

Vision

The next part of this story is about Jasami’s Vision. Not to sound too altruistic - it is to work toward a world where individuals are, not only accepted - but are appreciated, respected, and valued for their differences. Having dyslexia, or being part of a diverse community, will not be denigrated but celebrated!

Dyslexia, is simply a different way of looking at things, the way the mind processes the world of words.

It does not work within an ‘accepted standard’.

Diversity, is a community that does not fit within a narrow conscripted ideal.

It does not comply within an ‘accepted standard’. Including, but not limited to: race and ethnicity; religion; socioeconomic status; gender; sexual orientation; language; and geographical origin.

Our Vision is to work with those who are ‘different’ in order to educate those who are ‘not’ to embrace each individual for their very own attributes - whatever they may be.

Achieving Jasami’s Vision

Achieving the Vision is implemented through teamwork:

  • Editing team: understanding the intricacies of working with a dyslexic author.
  • Creative team: cover designer, illustrator, and graphic design artist devoted to understanding and creating the integration of the ideals of diversity.
  • Marketing team: working with the author to market their work and to inspire others who deal with dyslexia on a daily basis that they too can attain their wish to be a published author.

How will Jasami use the money to achieve our Vision?

As this story nears the end, it must answer the question of how to use the money we raise. It is by allocating the funds to ensure each project achieves its goal.

Pay the expenses involved in creating each work/project: editors, illustrators, cover designers video producers, video editors, video production, as well as the printer/s to bring the projects to life, and available to the world.

This story has many characters, Michèle, the Jasami Team, Jasami Authors, and Creators. It is lacking one important character, YOU. Your character provides support through the financial contribution, to see your Vision and Jasami’s Vision does not stay a pipe dream but becomes a reality. This is our story’s Happy Ending…and actually this is not the end of the story - it is the beginning of the ‘rest of the story’.
