Sport England - Movement Fund has provided £12,500 of match funding
To deliver outdoor training facilities that can be used not only by our growing mens, ladies and junior sections but also by local schools
Newmarket Cricket Club was formed in 2020 and in a very short time has established itself as a friendly, diverse and progressive community cricket club with a huge emphasis on the growth of its youth and ladies sections. The club runs two Saturday mens sides, a Sunday side, two midweek T20 sides and a ladies side that has started playing competitive matches this season and junior sides from our expanding set up from U5 - U15.

Our ground is a real asset and the club have invested in improving the playing surface, the pavilion and many of the key features of any progressive cricket club, namely the sightscreens, scoreboard and covers. The further development of our growing youth and ladies sections is dependant on delivering an outdoor training facility which will have 'leading edge' features in terms of its security and safety, the materials employed, it's composition and construction and it's playing surface.
The club intends to offer the facility to the local Community schools and clubs in order to further promote 'health and wellbeing' for all. The Community element of the proposed facility will enable the Club to showcase its ambition and build a legacy for the future.
The total budget for the Newmarket Cricket Club net project is £25,000. Every pound raised will go directly towards delivering a high-quality, ECB approved training net for our club and community.
The funds will cover:
Materials, Equipment, Preparation, Installation and Labour with all work overseen by an ECB approved contractor ensuring the facility meets national standards.
This transparent budget ensures the full contribution from supporters is invested in creating a long lasting, modern training facility for players of all ages.
This project will have a lasting, positive impact on the Newmarket and surrounding community.
The new training net will benefit:
• Over 100 club members, including five men’s teams, a ladies team, and a fast-growing junior section (U5s–U15s)
• Local schools, who will have access to a safe, professional facility to introduce more children to cricket
• The wider community, by encouraging participation in sport, physical activity and social inclusion
By providing a modern, weather-resistant and safe training environment, we will create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to stay active, develop new skills and build friendships through cricket.
The project will:
This facility will serve as a long term investment in grassroots sport, helping us inspire the next generation of players while keeping cricket at the heart of our community.
