Aim

Knit the Stripes is a public art project connecting people through positive climate action.

We are raising money to display our 'Knit the Stripes' exhibit during 2026 and to carry on the creation of our new mapping project - 'Square the Risk'.

Knit the Stripes is a community art project charting our changing climate.  Bradford (where we are based) has a world-renowned textile heritage and vibrant creative sector. We are celebrating both with our bold and engaging art display, highlighting climate change trends through a powerful visualisation of our climate’s warming.  Our project involved local crafters working in cohort to knit scarves displaying annual average temperature data and, when assembled, charting the history of Bradford’s changing climate from 1853 to 2023 – our very own climate stripes.  We have created a 15 metre long public art exhibit and engaged over 200 members of our community in crafting and climate conversations.

Square the Risk is creating large scale maps of the UK (knitted and crocheted of course!) showing climate risk data out to 2050.  They are a unique and engaging way of exploring the risks we all face, of a changing climate, if we don't act now.

More information about the project can be found on the Sustainability Sorted website.

We are raising funds to share our project with an even wider audience.  This will include:

- Costs associated with the display of our exhibits including facilitating a free public craft and climate chat events.

- Creation of a 'Craft for Climate' pack to allow more inclusive engagement with the project for people who cannot make it to our events.

So far, funds raised via this platform have been used to support our Craft for Climate event and exhibit at Bradford Cathedral (July 20205) and Yarndale (October 2025).  Our exhibits have now been seen by almost 10,000 people.   For every person that is involved, it’s one more positive climate conversation and a reminder that every action matters.
