To meet the criteria for level 4 football, we must erect barriers around some sections of the ground by the end of this season
Caerwys Football Club is located at Lon yr Ysgol, Caerwys on the far western side of Flintshire only 2 miles from the border with Denbighshire. Caerwys is a small town with a population of around 1300 inhabitants, mainly elderly residents. The club lease the football ground from the Local Authority. The club actually owns the pavilion which was built in 2011. The first, second and veterans teams operate in the North East Wales League and a team also plays in the Llandyrnog Summer League. The Club maintain the facility themselves and its main sponsors are Thomas Plant Hire. Football has existed in Caerwys since 1921 when they were known as Caerwys Town. The current club was formed in 1983 when they joined the Clwyd League. From 1993 to 2003 Caerwys ran junior teams from under 12 to under 16 level but the last twenty years has seen a reduction in the amount of children living in the community, due to the high cost of privately owned and rented properties. With more properties being built in the community, it is hoped that more families will be attracted to Caerwys Football Club.

Our first team are top of the North East Wales League (tier 5) and stand a very good chance of finishing in the top two places. To meet the criteria to gain promotion to tier 4, spectator barriers have to be erected. As one side of the pitch is shared with the school, temporary barriers made of upvc have to be used, which is proving to be very expensive but there is no other option. Elsewhere we can install permanent barriers made of galvanised steel.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. If you want to run your own fundraiser to support us, maybe a sponsored activity or similar, use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
Any funds raised will go on labour and materials with help from club volunteers as we don't have much time to get the work completed. One section of the pitch which borders the school will need temporary barriers as children need access to the whole facility, so these barriers are made of upvc and we have been quoted £3.5k for 75 metres by two companies. The remaining areas will be fitted with permanent tubular steel barriers concreted into the ground.

Spectator barriers will provide a safer environment for players, match officials and spectators. It will give the club more identity and provide the community with a better standard of football at tier 4 level and will hopefully encourage more local youngsters and also members of the public to get involved on and off the pitch. It is the only full size football pitch in the community so it is a valuable asset which must be protected. At the moment the pitch is roped off as in the photo below.
