COVID funding

The global COVID-19 pandemic has created a very uncertain landscape for our little business. We like to think we don't need help but actually changing the way we work in less the 6 months has challenged us in every way. We have only been open 1 year, we never thought we would achieve that. 

Our crafty business is absolutely supported by our local community and at times is more of a community project than a business which of course is wonderful but unfortunately can not pay the bills. Since the beginning of lockdown we have contributed to many projects such as Scrubs and I spent time trying to deliver locally to people who needed craft projects to do so they didn't feel alone. Crafting is a great way to create a mindful environment, releases anxiety or mild depression. It helps create an environment that takes away fears for just those moments. It was important that I could deliver and to have that comforting conversation on the doorstep and make sure people had what they need. It was making sure our community was ok. 

To keep that link going and my business available to those who relay on visiting and buying their basics who would rather support local independent businesses, it is important they feel they can be at the shop even while socialising distancing.

The money raised will go to supporting a covering structure for our courtyard, which means customers can come and wait ( due to socialising distancing ) without feeling like they'll get wet or cold throughout the winter months. People are desperate to get out but COVID guidelines interrupt their efforts to support our shop. The cover can then double up as a learning environment which could house more than 2 students at a distance. This means we can encourage people out and into a safe COVID environment with safe interaction with other people. This will help people feel cared for and feel they are not isolated. 

Our business is all about doing and in that effort, human interaction is the best way to help which makes sense regarding our online presence, we don't sell hardly at all online. I know this is something we have to look at and if we do have any extra money, we are going to invest in advice and help as to how we can access those staying at home still. Winter is coming and I want to be able to access people online more, via a click and collect system perhaps but still giving the option to collect from the shop if they don't feel comfortable browsing.  

It is just me but behind this business but it is two family names, Taylor & Abel. My dad and my mum. Mum was previously Abel and mum has helped me all the way. My dad ( Taylor ) did all the hard graft to getting the shop open along with my hubby. I'm also a design and technology teacher so I have lots of skills to offer people. I really want to keep offering my skills to people through my shop and making sure we set up a new generation where creative skills is vibrant and thought provoking. This all starts with a small shop and someone who can help create that, hopefully that can be me.
