Cost of Living Boost

Aim
We support families across the city to break free from the cycle of debt. We want to fund a debt coach to support another 20 families.
Our trained debt coaches are the backbone of our debt support service. They visit clients at home, building a 1:1 relationship of trust to review their financial circumstances. Alongside CAP UK, we develop bespoke budgets and debt payment plans for the client, enabling debt repayment in manageable instalments. Contact with creditors is handled by CAP staff, reducing client stress & anxiety.
Last week, we visited Cindy*:
"I felt very anxious when Nadine, my debt coach, arrived. I have been struggling with my mental health and felt very isolated. I had a pile of post from creditors that I felt too anxious to open.
Nadine chatted with me and made me feel at ease. By the end of the appointment I felt like a weight had already been lifted and I was not alone."
We signpost clients to benefits & tax advice, and resources on reducing expenditure & saving. A local volunteer befriender provides emotional support to each client.
Struggling families gain financial resilience through being equipped with budgeting tools, plus knowledge of benefits & risks of payday loans. They learn how to access advice, pay debts consistently and manage their finances. 3+ home visits are followed by ad hoc contact with the debt coach, enabling a graduated approach towards independence.
Nadine, one of our CAP debt coaches tells of her visit to a mother of four:
"We have been working with a single mother who felt totally isolated and had not told anyone about her debt.
We have helped her keep on top of her monthly spending with a bespoke budget, and she will soon become debt free through a Debt Relief Order. It is a fresh start for her, bringing freedom and happiness for her family."
We want to ensure longevity of employment for our current debt coaches, and be able to expand to serve more families when we have the funds.
