The Covid - 19 crisis has been a difficult period for everyone and our Scout Group is no different. We have lost all of our regular income streams, including subs from our members, hut rental and fundraising events - our Summer Gala has now been cancelled for 2020. Despite this, our running costs are actually increasing - the membership fee that we must pay to The Scout Association each year to meet rising Safeguarding and Insurance costs is expected to go up by £5 per member for January 2021, and our aging building is still undergoing an urgent refurbishment project. We have invested significant funds into the building over recent years thanks to grants and funds we have managed to raise, but there is much more to do to ensure the safety and security of the building for our young people.
We understand that not all families will be able to contribute to our cause at this difficult moment, which is why we have not made subs compulsory. However, we want to ensure our Group remains financially secure for all of our members to return to once this crisis is over - and are determined to ensure that costs to our members do not have to increase at this time. We are therefore asking that families donate towards, or pay in full, the cost of the Summer term subs. (These would have been £30 for reference.)
We are also appealing to all friends and supporters of the Group to support our appeal if you are able. Perhaps if you would normally come to enjoy our Gala, you could donate the amount you would have normally spent on a drink and cake! Anything anybody can give will hugely benefit our Group and allow us to continue to offer our amazing programme to our 100 youth members.
We are hoping to receive match funding from Sport England to help with this - if we reach 50% of our target (so £750), we can apply for Sport England to match this and allow us to reach our target - so we may effectively double your money!
