Crossed the finish line!!
Thank you SO MUCH to all those who have sponsored me for this challenge, which I have now completed! The amount raised currently stands at £1,250! This money will contribute towards the work that Linking Lives UK is doing to address loneliness and social isolation across the UK. Here is a short film I recorded after my final run, along with Strava images of more recent runs during the week. The challenge now is to keep it going!!
8.5km to go!!
The first two legs of my challenge have now been completed. I completed the 3km Green Park Challenge (part of Reading Half Marathon) on Sunday morning in a time of 18 min 40 seconds which was a personal best! Being overtaken by several young people provided an incentive to speed up!
This evening was a 3.5km run locally, which leaves 8.5 km to go during the rest of the week. Thank you again for your support in this!!
Two Days to Go!
I have my final practice run this evening before the 'real thing' starts on Sunday morning. The initial 3km Green Park Challenge is an early start and at the moment, it is forecast to be -2 degrees at the start so hat, scarf, gloves and thermals are required for all!!
Thank you for your generous donations so far which are much appreciated and I will post updates on the day and during next week.
My running history!
Last summer, I started using the 'Couch to 5k' system following lockdown. The last time I had done any 'proper running' was through 'cross country' during PE at school several years ago and it was my least favourite lesson!
My challenge
I will now be challenging myself to run at least 15 kilometres during the week of 3rd-9th April 2022 starting with participation in the Green Park Challenge on 3rd April which is a 3k run as part of the Reading Half Marathon. The remaining 12k will be run during the following week.
My cause
I will be raising money for Linking Lives UK which works across the UK to address loneliness and social isolation among older people. This is achieved by setting up befriending schemes in partnership with local churches in which volunteers visit or telephone those requiring regular contact. There are now over 60 schemes ranging from Inverness to Guernsey. Donations will enable new schemes to be set up to support those most in need of company and contribute towards the costs of training, resources and publicity.
Any donation to support me in this would be appreciated.
Please note that as things stand all individual donations up to £250 will be matched 'pound for pound' by the National Emergencies Trust. *
* If you have already donated directly to Linking Lives, any further donations using the same payment method in your name will not be matched.
