Help our girls to stay locally at this years inter-counties ensuring girls socialise with each other, reduce social isolation, and be a Team

Who are we?

We are part of the junior section of Cornwall Ladies’ County Golf Association and welcome girls up to 18 years of age of all golfing abilities - from beginners to advanced players. As an inclusive organisation, We focus on supporting and developing girls from all walks of life, with varying abilities who have a passion for golf. Through the game of golf, girls are encouraged to make new friends, develop new skills, practice personal responsibility, manage their emotions, learn etiquette and pursue wellness for life by enjoying the outdoors.

Community impact

We live in rural Cornwall where family incomes can be low due lots of jobs are In tourism. It is also common for our girls to be the only Junior girl member in local clubs so getting the girls together will really help with social, mental and friendship development which will go on to help them become mature young ladies in time. We wish to inspire other girls to take up this great sport.

3 of our girls have recently won trophies at the Ladies County Championships, which is a fantastic achievement for anyone under 18.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our girls golf team plays annually in an inter-counties competition of 6 counties in the South West of England. This year the inter-counties competition is coming to Cornwall, however this raises the problem of the cost of accommodation is high, if the girls do not stay overnight their day will need to start at 5am and will not finish until 9pm as the competition comprises of 2 days playing 36 holes of golf and on the last day finishing with 18 holes. Travel times for the girls can be 1.5 hours each way. The team for inter-counties consists of 8 girls.

We are raising funds to help with the cost of the accomodation. With this years event being at Carlyon Bay and in August the cost of the accommodation is high, and the girls would also like to have their own kit which fits (Polo shirt,  Jumper, waterproof top ),  this is currently is lent on an event by event basis from the ladies team, however the sizes are not always right.

The girls have been caught out by Covid, this competition was due to have come to Cornwall in 2020 but was postponed due to Covid, back in 2020 the hotel offered the accommodation and food free of charge, due to a change in management the cost of accommodation alone is now just over £3500. We are now unable to find any other accommodation locally, if we do not stay locally together girls will need to travel.

Our group of girls currently play golf in all weathers and travel all over Cornwall to play in various competitions. However this competition starts at 7.30am on all 3 days which puts travelling daily out of reach. With this being a team competition girls staying somewhere together helps to build team working.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The funds raised will help cover accommodation  costs and help towards a Team Kit.

We also hope to raise enough to ensure all of our girls benefit of a team kit, not just the inter-counties team. This currently will benefit 20 girls.

Existing Girl Golfers

Girls playing golf in Cornwall have the opportunity to have increased coaching by Professionals. Currently the 20 girls in the training team receive 5 afternoon coaching sessions, all junior girls are offered this chance annually. From this group of girls teams are picked for various County Competitions.

Over the years, many girls have taken advantage of the events, coaching and support provided by CLCGA. Lots of them have represented Cornwall at both junior and senior level, a few of them have competed for England and Wales with some turning professional, playing on tour or teaching.

Being a rural low income area and we would also love to Build up our loan equipment, we currently have limited amount of loan equipment and we would like increase to what we have. Most courses do not have any shelter as we are a coastline area, and weather can be extreme.  Good waterproofs are essential all year round and wind exceeding 40 mile an hour winds in not uncommon. We would also like to increase the amount of coaching available to our girls and provide training aids.

New members

We welcome new members, golf England have also Introduced

GIRLS GOLF ROCKS so you can learn with other girls of a similar ability.

Girls Golf Rocks encourages beginner girls aged 5-18 to learn and play golf in a fun and friendly way.

The programme runs nationally across England and we have nearly 200 host clubs/facilities taking part. In Cornwall there are 4 Golf clubs offering girls rock spaced across the County.

Our clubs aim to create an environment where girls feel comfortable and confident to join in the initial sessions and then offers a clear pathway for them to continue their participation.

Girls Golf Rocks ambassadors will be on hand at the clubs to support new participants during their girls-only group sessions.

Taster sessions are free, usually last an hour and are a great way of trying golf before signing up to the six-week coaching course.

The coaching course will involve six, hour-long sessions spread over six weeks with the last lesson out on the course. The sessions are designed to be :

  • FUN!
  • Involve team/group pursuits
  • Include a variety of golf-related activities
  • Allow for social time either at the beginning or end (or both)

if you are interested in Trying Girls Golf Rocks please visit the England Golf website.

We would also like to raise the interest in our sport by arranging visits to local primary schools.
