Cornwall cost of living: Money Matters project

Aim

Supporting families in Cornwall with young children to find their way through the cost of living crisis. Advice, support and signposting.

Our vision at Home-Start Kernow is that all families with young children in Cornwall have the support they need and deserve. Parenting can be challenging for a whole range of reasons but struggling with your finances can make things doubly difficult. With the current cost of living crisis, we want to make sure that when families are struggling with financial issues we can offer the right support at the right time. 

There are many challenges facing families in Cornwall: low wages, poor housing and poor transport links can make life really difficult. The current cost of living crisis is adding more barriers to a happy family life. We have a network of wonderful volunteers and staff across Cornwall who are ready to help. 

This funding would allow us to run more of our groups for parents, babies and toddlers. At these groups, we can offer support with money management, benefits and grants to support those in financial difficulties. We can invite in other services to offer bespoke advice and one to one support. 

In addition to this, the funding can be used to offer training to our volunteers so they can offer one to one advice and support to families in their own homes. We can identify families that are struggling early on and offer support before they reach crisis point.
