Cornwall Croquet Club needs to be able to purchase their current croquet grounds of 2.85 acres together with the club house, storage sheds and toilets in order for the Club to continue. Our lease expires in September 2026 and will not be renewed. However we have an option to purchase of which the total cost is estimated at £65,000. We have raised £40,000 to date.
Relocation is not financially viable with the cost of each lawn costing £20,000 to create. We currently have three lawns which are the minimum number needed to play competitively and for social play.
The majority of the members of the Club live in St Austell and the surrounds but we do have people coming from further afield. We hold free open days and weekly have a go sessions. The club hosts other local clubs every year including the Freemasons, Soroptimists, Royal Navy Association, the Bowls club and local businesses.
Croquet is not just about sport; it is also about friendship. A questionnaire went to members in 2023 and many responses commented on the welcome received, the friendships they had made and the support they were given, particularly in bereavement. The club is open all year and if the weather makes it impossible to play croquet, games and activities are available in the club house. Members have historically shown support for newcomers to the game offering help and advice during club weekly game sessions.
The club runs beginners coaching courses every year and intermediate training. It also takes part in hosting regional competitions.
In 2024 we hope to develop a next generation project with local schools and colleges.
So many business's in St Austell and the surrounds have donated rewards and we are so very grateful for their support. To see the rewards in more detail please visit our Facebook page
