To provide a space for rough sleepers to escape the cold and get support to help improve their financial wellbeing and life chances.
ENDING ROUGH SLEEPING AND A PLACE TO GO IN THE COLD
Cornerstone aims to end rough sleeping in Hartlepool and has opened a sit-up service to protect and give rough sleepers a safe place to go in the cold weather. Our charity aims to raise the social capital of the communities it serves in the Noth East.
HOUSING THE HOMELESS
These communities are in the 10% most deprived areas of the UK. The charity offer supported housing for hundreds of homeless people and also seeks out and works with rough sleepers across County Durham and Hartlepool.
RAISING PEOPLE'S SOCIAL CAPITAL IN DEPRIVED AREAS
Cornerstone’s Community hubs extend support services to the wider community and in turn have drawn in, housed, and formed collaborative working groups with complementary support agencies tackling addictions, offending, domestic violence, debt, and social isolation such as Harbour, Citizen’s Advice, and housing teams.
CREATING AND PROVIDING MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT
The charity operates a furniture and shed-making social business in parallel to its support services at a factory site in Willington, County Durham with retail outlets in Hartlepool. The woodwork enterprise offers alternative education provision placements for five young people not attending the traditional school system each working day and paid six-month work experience placements for 18 to 24-year-olds struggling to gain employment elsewhere via the DWP Kickstart scheme.
