Aim

To build two new netting lanes so that we have 4 cricket nets and potentially also refurbish the current two-lane nets.

Who are we?

Corley Cricket Club is a village cricket club on the outskirts of Coventry. We are home to 9 junior teams, including a fantastic girls' team, and 4 adult sides! We pride ourselves on having the biggest junior section in Coventry with our membership and participation numbers growing each week! Corley has developed from a small village club with no junior section, to the biggest junior section in the city over the last 10 years! However, this now means that our facilities are now no longer able to facilitate good quality provision and need updating to prevent us having to turn away new participants!

Why do we need new nets?

There are multiple reasons for this! Firstly, our current netting facilities are in need of a complete refurbishment! As you can see in the pictures, they have been well used over the last 15 years and have seen better days! However, we also need to extend these nets! Due to the shear growth of our club, 2 nets are no longer enough! We HAVE NEVER turned any player away, but we are approaching a point now where we may have to if we do not improve our facilities! These numbers have especially grown in the girl's department since the Commonwealth games! Therefore, to be able to continue to welcome any new member with open arms we need to increase our practice facilities to support this!

Senior Cricket

Our senior sides have been going from strength to strength over recent years. Our 1st XI finished 4th in division 2 last year after winning division 3 the year before; and are keen to be pushing to play division 1 or higher cricket in the near future. Our second XI play in Division 6 and our 3rd XI in Division 9. This allows players of a range of abilities to play in matches; and increase our inclusive nature. Our senior teams have been enhanced this year by the progression of juniors progressing through into all senior teams! This year we had the privilege of over 20 of our homegrown juniors playing in our senior teams!

Junior Cricket

We have had fantastic success within our junior section over the last 10 years! This year we had 68 All Stars plus 85 junior members! This made up our 9 junior teams including our fantastic girls' team which has been introduced this year! We are able to promote our inclusivity, and we pride ourselves on enjoyment, player development in order to achieve team success! We provide cricket FOR ALL! These Corley values have brought us success in many ways. This includes: the introduction of our girls' section, participation numbers growing week on week, 4 teams winning their league and over 20 juniors playing in our senior teams (this is an age where players often give up the game)!

Community impact

Our club has largely boosted participation numbers from within the local community over the last decade and this is something we will continue to do going forwards. We interact with our community as much as possible, by hosting local school games free of charge, local scouts cricket sessions and hosting local community events to interact with our community as much as possible.

Our values as a club are: participation, enjoyment and player development. We pride ourselves on these values over team success as we believe long term engagement and development is the most important!

The impact of the Commonwealth Games 2022

The Commonwealth games had a fantastic impact on our participation numbers! Due to the re-introduction of women's cricket in the games, we experienced a flurry of interest, particularly from girls. This led to us forming our first ever girls' team! We entered 3 tournaments, often being the only team to take 2 sides; and also had the fantastic experience of playing at Edgbaston which many of the girls were able to recognise from the Commonwealth Games! This increase in numbers was also seen in the other junior sides following the completion of the Commonwealth Games. We were able to discuss the values of the games with our teams which fit well with our own! These are: humanity, destiny and equality. These values are represented well within the Corley CC community; we focus on our members potential and embracing people's differences and variety of cultures. The forward-thinking picture of our club also links to promoting the diversity we represent and ensuring equal opportunity for all, no matter members' race, gender or ability. The legacy from the games has meant that we now need to improve our practice environment in order to facilitate our increase in participants!

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding to update our current cricket nets which are 2 lanes and worn to a point where they are now dangerous. In order for us to continue to deliver cricket provision and inspire others to play cricket, particularly for our large membership base that continues to grow week on week, we need to update and expand these. This will allow extra opportunities for our senior and junior members along with our brand-new girls' section to get high quality coaching and a better all-round experience which will encourage them to remain active throughout life! We will be building two new netting lanes and then either as part of this project or as a second phase, refurbish the current netting lanes!

How we will spend the money raised

We will spend the money raised on building two new netting lanes next to our current nets and then refurbishing our current nets! This will create four brand new, top of the range nets!
